Isaiah's family tries to come to terms with the tragic pit bull attack.

Police shot two pit bulls that attacked and killed an infant in the 1100 block of Ruiz Street near North Navidad Street.

The call came in around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities say that 7-month-old Izaiah Gregory Cox was inside the home with his great-grandmother Irma Garcia and the two dogs, named Cane and Wrinkle. The 56-year-old great-grandmother said she placed the baby on her bed, then went into the kitchen to get a bottle for the child.

That's when the pit bulls broke through the baby gate and attacked the baby. Garcia said she tried to stab the dogs with a knife in an attempt to get them to release the baby. That's when they started to attack her. Garcia continued her efforts and finally managed to get the baby then call for help.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said that EMS had to enter through a side window to avoid the dogs which had been forced into the backyard. Neighbors say that the dogs were mean and aggressive. Police are investigating to determine whether anyone will face criminal charges.

The infant was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Four other unleashed dogs that appeared in the area after the attack caught the attention of Animal Care Services, who captured at least two of them.
