The December 2008/January 2009 issue of CosmoGirl features Country Music star Taylor Swift as the 2008 Girl of the Year. Swift can be seen on the cover of the issue and in a 5-page spread in the magazine currently on newsstands.

During a photo shoot for the magazine in New York City, the Tennessean reports that a group of children mistakenly identified Swift for Paris Hilton.

“The fact is, Taylor is about as different from Paris as you can get,” said the CosmoGirl article. “Despite her superstar status, she doesn’t party, she still lives with her family, and she’s more comfortable in her flat, fringed booties than in Prada pumps. Actually, Taylor has always known who she was meant to be.”

Swift's spread marks the beginning of a “Born to Lead” section that features young people striving to change things for the better in the future. Other winners include Jesse McCartney, Olympians Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson, Whitney Port from MTV’s The Hills and actress Christina Ricci.

Recently Swift has enjoyed success at the 2008 American Music Awards, winning the award for Favorite Female Artist – Country. She is also on the covers of Girl’s Life and Women’s Health for the month of December. Seventeen included her in the “Style Star of 2008” section and she is in Allure’s “Your Face” section.  Additonally, she is Cosmopolitan’s “Fun, Fearless Female” for December.
