NBA LIVE 10 - LIVE is Back!

By Sean O'Brien, Producer

NBA LIVE 10.  LIVE is back.

That’s right…I said it.  And I mean it.  NBA LIVE has an extremely rich tradition of creating some amazing basketball video games, but admittedly has had a tough couple of years recently and the product hasn’t lived up to expectations…both internally as well as externally.

Some of you may have read how we’ve changed the team making the game…moving some people around and bringing some people onboard to complement the existing team.  We’ve also really honed in on where the game was deficient and addressed those areas.   The direction this year has been about making LIVE a great playing basketball game again, while focusing on improving our in game presentation, visuals and atmosphere, getting to a never seen before level of authenticity with our players, providing you with a brand new way of playing OTP and taking Dynamic DNA to an entirely new level, both with how it impacts players and gameplay throughout the NBA season as well as how you as a connected user use it to change the way to play NBA LIVE.

You’ll be happy to hear that gameplay was at the top of that list and I am extremely happy to report that the game (even with 2 months of development left) is already playing better than any other NBA LIVE title.  I’ve been saying that we’re “fixing the cracks in the foundation of gameplay”.  That basically means we’re focusing on fixing those controller throwing moments where the game does or doesn’t do something that really frustrates you.  We will also be offering you an unparalleled level of user control that will completely change the way that you play the game (not marketing speak here…).  I’m also really excited about the level of authenticity and team differentiation that you’ll see in the game this year.  Again, like nothing seen in a basketball game to date.  I’ll let the experts break all of this down for you in the coming weeks as Mike Wang, Jeff Antwi and Novell Thomas will get into more detail on exactly what we’ve done and why.

Matt Lafreniere will be walking you through what was done with the in game presentation.  From everything to the individual game atmosphere based on when and where the game is being played and who’s playing in it to the new broadcast graphics package and presentation.  We’ve seen the two Czarisodes (http://www.operationsports.co/videoview.php?id=390 and http://www.operationsports.com/newspost.php?id=325692) that were posted on OS.  This is another area where we knew we were really falling short in 09.  NBA LIVE 10 has taken a huge leap forward in this area and I think the Czar’s scores will look much different when he does his NBA LIVE 10 vs NBA2K10 Czarisodes next year.

Marcus will give you some more insight into Synergy Sports and what they do for their NBA teams as well as how it impacts you when you play NBA LIVE throughout the season.  This is a service used by 80% of the teams in the NBA.  The fact that we are using their data and tendencies to affect the way players in NBA LIVE play based on their performance during the NBA season is second to none.  We’ve completely removed the subjectivity of ratings driving gameplay…everything is based on real world performance on a daily basis.  I can go on and on about Dynamic DNA.  I really think it’s the most innovative feature sports games have ever seen.  NBA LIVE 10 will finally have the core gameplay in a position to really make this innovation shine.

Garreth Reeder will be walking you all through the evolution of Dynamic DNA as well as our online feature set this year.  We’re still going to be offering a daily DNA update plus something that should blow you guys away.  Not going to divulge anything at this point…except for the fact that there will be a lot of guys who were posting wish lists or ideas about the next steps for DNA throughout the past 6 or 7 months that are going to be pumped about it.  Also, as I mentioned above, OTP will take on a whole new meaning that I think you’ll find both relevant and extremely addictive.

The following quote off of the OS boards caught my eye and I thought I’ve give Jamin23 something to look forward to…

“The only thing I want to know is if they have Lebrons rosin or any pregame intro and I'm a happy camper for now” – Jamin23 (http://www.operationsports.com/forums/nba-live/325086-nba-live-10-blog-first-trailer-7.html#post2039690565)

Keep in mind…the visuals in this screen shot are a WIP.  It is an in game screen shot running at 60 FPS with no Photoshop touch ups.  Once we’re in a position to show you guys final visuals and animation, Ryan Santos will post a video that shows the enormous amount of detail that has gone into the players this year.  You guys will not believe the attention to detail that has been placed on tattoos, player heads and hair, shoes, uniforms as well as signature shots and moves.  We’ll be creating numerous videos to showcase all of this over the summer.

See the happy camper Jamin23 below…

I wish I could get into more detail for you guys right now.  With so much time left in the development cycle, I can’t risk divulging too much information at this point.  We do have to be mindful that we have a strong competitor that can see this post just as easily as any of you can.  That being said, you will be seeing a new blog right here each Friday followed by a guest appearance on our radio show the following Monday touching on absolutely everything that we’ve done to the game this year.

Good or bad, we want to hear your comments and feedback about what we post.  Ideally you’re giving us specific feedback or ideas that we can run with.  Our goals are the same as yours…we want to create the most authentic basketball game.  Authentic basketball is cool regardless of how hardcore or casual of a gamer you are and how sim of an experience you’re looking for.  Everybody (including us) is looking to make NBA LIVE 10 the most realistic basketball game and if it’s not it’s only because we haven’t made it yet.

By the time the game ships in early October, you guys will know it all and will have played the demo to see for yourselves what we’ve pulled off this year.  I’m not going to sit here and sell or convince you on how great NBA LIVE 10 is going to be…I’m going to sit back and let the game do the talking.

    Looks great!

  • Ray AP19 said June 17, 2009

Great blog, but I just thought I'd add something I noticed in the screenshot. LeBron's jersey has that texture on it like the jerseys fans would buy in a Modell's or something-- real NBA jerseys that the players wear during the games don't have that texture. It's smoother and doesn't have all the little holes and whatnot in it.

    blog.oregonlive.com/.../lebron.JPG

See? I know the visuals are still a work in progress, I just thought I'd bring this to your attention.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

it looks like lebron is doing his pregame ritural...already that got me EXCITED. It would be even nicer if yall made the crowd do it with him. From the way this blog sounds live is back to its glory days. I just hope all this hype dont let me down like all the other years.

  • Ray AP19 said June 17, 2009

Also, another thing is that the jersey itself seems too thing. It seems paper-thin, almost.

Just something I noticed, don't wanna be too adamant about it.

  • cabrillo24 said June 17, 2009

Didn't know all NBA players shaved their armpits.  Great read, not too much different from the ESPN read except about how its not longer going to be a rating driven engine.  That's going to be very interesting.

  • Ray AP19 said June 17, 2009

    Ray AP19 said June 17, 2009

Also, another thing is that the jersey itself seems too thing.

EDIT: That should be "too thin." lol

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

Ray AP, you're absolutely right.  But if you look closely at Cleveland's jerseys, their whites have that texture, while their reds have a different one :)  Tricky I know, but I'll let Ryan Santos talk about different jersey textures.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

this is an old video from live 2003. what i want to highlight from it is the way ben wallace blocked my man's shot out of bounds. Is that comming back to live 10 but with better animation instead of being all stiff like in the video? I hope so cause i love big defensive plays. it just gets the team hyped to play better.

I have chosen NBA 2K since 2004, but was very impressed with Live last year (still gave the nod to 2K.  This year, I think my money will go to whoever doesn't have 65% FG percentages every game.

  • Vaegon said June 17, 2009

Have you guys removed sliding and teleporting to dunks or any other animation?

Since you guys have custom shot arcs what about custom vertical jumps? Like if I wanted to create Earl The Goat Manigault and Spud Webb?

Will playbook calling for superstar isolations still be in the game?

Will you consider using Natural Motion's physics engine with fluid and realistic momentum and weight?

Are you interested in using motion controls for Live '11 so you can bring the game into first person for a more visceral experience?

  • Ray AP19 said June 17, 2009

I don't mean to argue with you, Marcus, but upon further inspection, it seems like their reds and whites have the same texture

    Unless I'm missing something?

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

ebugaloo nba 2k is garbage...everybody looks like they been smeared and it just feels too arcady

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

Yeah Ray, I just did a comparison with our getty images account in super high res, and they're different.  Wouldn't lie to you bro.

  • Ray AP19 said June 17, 2009

Cool, I'll take your word for it.

BTW, will there be another blog this Friday or is this the only one for this week?

  • TreyIM2 said June 17, 2009

Cool. Can't wait for the weekly updates starting this Friday. I know what u mean about the comp picking up on things like they tried to do with Living Rosters or whatever it's called. I think the feel of Live has been better the last 2 iterations although it felt like it changed a bit from 08 to 09 and was slightly "off" in 09. Like I used to say to people, Live just felt more like real b-ball than 2K but mostly everything else was better on 2K. I had to go with 2K9 last year as opposed to the year previous where I bought Live 08 then 2K8 about a month or so later but I never really got into 2K8.

I hope u guys rise up and take back the title. U guys are like the little big engine that could, to me. Lol. Can't wait to see how this Live shapes up. I'm rooting for u.

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

    Ray,

Not letting the cat out, but jersey textures SHOULDN'T be an issue this year.  This is the only one for this week my man.  We start the regular cadence this Friday.

  • demelash said June 17, 2009

I REALLY HOPE that they have that pair of LeBron's shoes in this game, just because that is my fav pair of shoes. :)

But for the more important stuff, I am really encouraged/excited!! I love that your adding to the game presentation like Bron's chalk clap.

I have two questions though Marcus!

    1. What does OTP stand for?

    2. Will post players like Shaq/Howard use more one-handed post moves this year? Because in 09 just about all CPU-controlled post players used a two-handed turnaround move.

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

omg ... u guys have absolutely no idea how impressed with what am hearing and seeing.... btw i dont think motion controllers are for this year live... mmaybe they shud introduce another basketball game for ea... dat is exclusively for motion controllers

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

how many different people did you guys do mo cap with??? and did you guys mo cap with some post players to make the post game in live 10 more realistic???

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

    demelash,

    OTP = Online Team Play

Can't speak on that demelash, Mike Wang will in an upcoming blog.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

demelash otp stands for online team play. thats when you're playing on a team online with four other users and you only control one player the whole game. Its pretty fun when you're not playing with a bunch of dush bags.

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

i like to see those flashy dunks like the behind da back in that live 03 intro

  • meechie said June 17, 2009

OTP STANDS FOR ONLINE TEAMPLAY. My man steph can answer the other question for u....

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

why does this pic of lebron look sooo different from dwight in the trailer. i was hoping dwight was in game footage:( but i guess the pic of lebron is good enough b/c it is better than last year's 09:)

  • demelash said June 17, 2009

Oh ok! Thanks for answering my question everyone. And that's cool, I can wait for more blogs.

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

i knew da dwight was not da in game footage.. it looked like a cgi animation ... but i actually like this ..maybe even better

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

do yall see the powder in the spotlight....NIIIICCCEEEE

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

dont get me wrong i do like this pic of lebron. it is the best one yet graphical wise. so i am impressed. im just ready for the first gameplay trailer so i can see the game in action. cause a still photo can make a game look great but the gameplay will really show how the game is. I hope the gameplay trailer comes SOONER than LATER.

  • Jazza09 said June 17, 2009

Marcus, just had a question about the plans for player D-N-A and if this was possible.

Would it be possible to change coaches and possibly arenas and jerseys with the Live Rewind feature? I played a rewind game the other day and was disappointed not to have Isaiah as the coach.

I'm sure i am not the only person who likes to adjust rosters to fit different years, 2001 and 1998 are personal favs for me. It'd be awesome to have the colors of arenas change like Utah's and Memphis did, as well as have the older coaches. Another idea would be to have those coaches available in dynasty mode as possible coaches to sign if you fire the current ones/

Again, just getting started with the many ideas i have which would really complete this game

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

yes yes .... ur totally rigt man .. picture is great to show how it looks.. now i wana see hwo it plays

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

Main reason for giving you guys this screen was because we wanted to show you guys that we have his pre-game ritual in.

We fully expect, and know that you guys want gameplay info.  Please be patient on that front, we will get there.  We just want to keep working before we just throw you stuff.  We know that because of the position NBA LIVE is in, we better come at you guys with something awesome gameplay-wise.

  • PlaystationMan24 said June 17, 2009

This game is looking really good.I liked Live 09 but Im gonna have a blast with Live 10!Only thing I noticed is that the fans still look like last year. The fans need to look more life-like.Also you guys are bringing back the Live Academy right? That was a great feature.

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

  • purduedoh said June 17, 2009

No ratings huh?  So what's the stop the game from making Jamal Crawford a god if he goes for 50 in one night, but 10 in another night?  I never thought that ratings was a shortcoming in the game, so why remove them?

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

since u say no ratings i want to see how that would work.. bcuz i dont understand how players would play is they dont have specific ratings

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

ray its a freaking work in progress screenshot.

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

heh warrior are u liking what ur seeing... cuz i know u really c are about presentation..  =]

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

in dynasty the commentators should be up to date with what they say like "the knicks really needed this win tonight, they just got the 8th playoff spot in the east".they should be up to date with the player stats too.

marcus, just incase you didn't see this in the last post i will my last requests again.

i would like to see the players (on court and bench) ,coaches and crowd  be more active.

like show the player's frustration after missing a shot, show the coaches stomping in a blowout game, show the fans getting up with posters saying "howard make some magic".

also coaches dont stand up watching the whole game, they sit sometimes.

please fix the free agent thing, when you press X to sign the player, show a interest bar along with some topics like "star of the team" (with kobe his interest in that would be 95%).if  he has a low interest, just say kobe bryant isn't interested in signing with your team,if its a decent interest level just let us work out his desired contract..i hope you understand what im saying but if you dont just say explain it more.

    make the cheerleaders non robotic.

i would like to see blocked dunks, but have different kinds.

make the players have roles, ben wallace would be "defensive".

fix some of the player's names in dynasty because some have dumb names.

also make some future stars because after a while its like im playing with a bunch of bums.

make the players have some swagger, make that a rating also.

make the dynasty menu more life like because its just dead right now.

i never see fake left handed players in dynasty, fix this please.

in dynasty, make the asian players look asian and the africans look african. (i know this sounds funny but it kinda ruins the realism for me)

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

what do you guys mean,no ratings?

  • tommyfusco said June 17, 2009

    will.

    wii.

    version.

    yikes

  • tommyfusco said June 17, 2009

    simple question.

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

yea boy225 i like what im seeing from nba live on this post,it was kinda bland but it will do for now because its just the starting point.

  • mwa20000 said June 17, 2009

something i noticed playing today, when you run off ball sreens to get a shooter open they need to come off the screen ready to shoot, not just run around to get open, otherwise you get the weird animation of the catch and a step then shoot or they are running away from the hoop and have to fadeaway, it needs to just be coming off the screen low, knees bent ready to shoot or get to the hoop. also when i call plays to get shooters open it needs to happen quicker

  • Dantecamp21 said June 17, 2009

Marcus, one of my biggest gripes with last year's game was the lightining inside the arenas. Always too dark. I know that in Live 08 you guys did that on purpose to keep the frame rate in check. But last year, the lightning was off once again. I'd like to see some of the "fog" effects that Live 06 for the Xbox 360 had. The TD Banknorth Garden always has that effect. Both Amyway Arena and Energy Solutions Center has it as well.

Also, some of the arenas aren't very well replicated. I think you guys tend to recycle some of it. For instance, the AT&T Center has the roof from the Pepsi Center and the stands doesn't have its tunnels behind the backboards like the real thing.

And last but not least, find yourself a copy of NBA 08 for the PS3 and boot it up. The LED in the stands is miles ahead of what you guys have to offer. Please try to replicate it.

    Looking forward for the game.

    Peace.

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

    Tommy,

I can't speak on the Wii version, or I would've answered you already.

Warrior, most of these things are being addressed, but you'll have to wait for the appropriate producer to shed some light on each. :)

  • clems247 said June 17, 2009

If LIVE wanna be up there wit NBA 2k they gotta be DETAILED especially wit the Gameplay. Because every year i hope LIVE will be better than NBA 2k. LIVE 2005 was my Favorite.

  • TreyIM2 said June 17, 2009

Dantecamp21 - Wow, u brought Sony's NBA game into the mix. What a waist of 1080p, imo, but I guess that they may have SOME redeeming qualities outside of 1080p. That's a game that REALLY needs to step it's game up more than any b-ball game but I digress cuz this is the Live blog....

Marcus, now, u SURE the weekly updates start NEXT Friday and not this coming Friday? Just read what u said on Op. Sports about it. Just need clarity. Thanks.

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

Yes, NEXT Friday we start our regular cadence.  Sean O'Brien will be on the EA SPORTS LIVE Radio show tomorrow though...

  • TreyIM2 said June 17, 2009

Thanks, Marcus. U guys got me amped. First Madden 10 then NHL 10 and now this. Hell, I may even complete the circle and grab Fifa 10, this year. Lol. I love what EA is doing. Way to raise up from the "ashes" that many people threw on you. NCAA? I dunno bout that but I will get it. Great features but the gameplay is Madden 09 with a bit extra animations, it seems. Keep up the good work, regardless!

  • xtreme360 said June 17, 2009

Marcus where do i can ear the EA SPORTS LIVE Radio show?

    BTW great job so far.

  • Dantecamp21 said June 17, 2009

TreyIM2, I don´t think Sony´s NBA series is anywhere near Live/2K gameplay wise. But I think they have some very small details (like the one I mentioned) going for them. Their LED is downright awesome.

In order to be the best game on the market, I think EA needs to take a look at everything that´s available.

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

this isn't a big deal to me but will you guys be making the player's muscles flex?

have the college player's stats in dynasty.

i would like to see a mock draft.

during the actual draft, have commentary like "the cavaliers select power forward anthony james 20th overall from florida state,he averaged 12.7 rebounds per game along with 14.5 points per game". also it would be cool if you could have some videos of the player.

  • EA_MarcusStephenson said June 17, 2009

    Dante,

We had an emphasis on arena lighting this year that Ryan Santos will talk about in an upcoming blog.

  • KiNg kRiSiS said June 17, 2009

Wuts good Marcus? Im not sure if signature shoes are going to be discussed in a later post, but im a sneaker fanatic. Im sure there are a lot more sneaker fanatics that play basketball games too. But i had a couple suggestions about sneaker integration in your game.

    1) If you have a Jordan Brand license in your game. Have Jordans 1 through 23 (and 24 when it comes out) but make them all customizable as far as colors are concerned. Because a lot of players have personal editions of these shoes to match their team colors, and they even have their initials on them.

    2) Have every signature shoe in the game (no matter what the brand). Example: D Wades, Lebrons, Kobe, etc.  For those that come out after the game release, make them DLC. Preferebly free DLC. LoL.

    3) If someone has a contract with a certain shoe company, only let them wear that brand.

Just a few suggestions. I know some people might think its a minor issue, but to me its important. If it's in the game, it's in the game right.

  • jwheels9876 said June 17, 2009

The first shot has been fired. 2K is going to have to reinvent itself to keep up with you guys this year I think. Just look at the texture of Lebron's skin in that pic, and his beard.. Keep up the good work, and make sure that stupid defensive bumping animation is gone this year :)

  • RexB610 said June 17, 2009

someone mentioned 1080p. Will NBA Live 10 be 1080p this time around.

  • ChrisR22 said June 17, 2009

In NBA Live 10 there needs to be some way to make team adjustments to tempo and matchups before the game starts, or at least allow them to be adjusted without a madatory timeout. The post game moves were also very disappointing because they are very robotic and not fluid like moves done on the perimeter. And for gods sake, there is NO WAY that pau gasol or any other big man is going to beat an smaller, quicker player in a race to the bucket from one end of the floor to the other. GET IT TOGETHER.

I hope you guys have fixed the bug that allows a player to gather near the three point line and glide all the way to the basket for an easy two points. Secondly, tip-ins and put-backs are absent from Live 09 and should definitely be put into Live 10. This year the gameplay inside of the game should be somewhat similar to online gameplay. How else are you supposed to practice and be fully prepared for online gameplay.

Just a few hopeful comments. I am and have been a fan of the Live series and I just would like to see the gameplay back to where it was or better that it was in the early 2000's. Hopefully you guys are serious this time about wanting to make NBA Live the premier basketball game once again.

  • boy225 said June 17, 2009

the wii version can never be as good as the other versions... its still too premature not next gen yet

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

im sorry but im tired of some of you dudes whining saying "i hope the wii version is as good" it will never be as good as the ps3/xbox360 versions, just get a ps3(i best recommend) or a 360,think before you say something like that.

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

make the players have underarm hair but i dont care if you add it or not.

make the player's shoe color change when they are on a new team because example: i would see lebron with red shoes when he is on the knicks in dynasty.he should have the same shoes but with knicks colors.

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

fix the glitch where the cpu shoots a 2 pointer in the corner and they count it as 3.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

so am i hearing this right...NO blog this week??? What type of touture are you guys at ea are trying to do to me. lol

  • Dantecamp21 said June 17, 2009

I think priority #1 should be this:

    - GET THE ROBOTIC FEEL OUT OF THE GAME.

That´s gotta be the main concern. 2K´s engine is so much more fluid that their gameplay can get away with enormous ammounts of sliding and clipping without breaking the game.

NBA Street Homecourt had award winning animations. So it´s safe to say you guys have the technology to outperform the competition.

If Live can get its gameplay togheter, it will be very tough for 2K to keep up with them. Live has everything going for them: game modes, better online servers, better (I´d say MUCH BETTER) production values, better art direction, etc.

Also, Ryan Santos (who worked on Homecourt) said he´ll bring back some of the real basketball lifestyle into the game and even mentioned throwback jerseys making its much atecipated return.

Please developers, don´t break our hearts again.

    Peace.

  • KiNg kRiSiS said June 17, 2009

How about broadcast and presentation for network specific games? If the game is on a Tuesday have the TNT presentation and broadcasters. Thursday have the ESPN presentation and broadcasters. Weekends have the ABC layout and broadcasters. If it's a local broadcast just have an EA presentation and broadcasters. That is if you cant get the local network licenses for each city.

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

How many times can the Live team cry wolf?  Every single year, "Live is Back".  Enough already.  I know you are trying to create hype, but by just talking about what the improvements are instead of cryptic messages and generic talk would be alot more effective.

Dantecamp21 - I agree with u about EA looking at Sony's NBA game to get inspiration from as well as your list with EA killing the robotic feel of Live as their first priority. I said that same thing a loooonnng time ago and if they have some tech that makes that a thing of the past, I hope they can pass it on to the Madden team. I absolutely LOVE what they are doing with Madden this year but the "roboticness" is still present yet I can live with it from what I've seen of Madden.

Anyway, back to Live 10 - I cannot wait. I'm actually gunna finish out my Finals in 2K9 then trade it in. I didn't even play a whole season, simming most of it, for my lowly Nets. I don't ever play a whole season of any b-ball sim game, unfortunately, but I hope Live 10 will make me want to.

All this Live 10 talk makes me wanna download the Live 09 demo, again, actually. Peas.

  • Dantecamp21 said June 17, 2009

boy225 had a great idea. You guys should pit screenshots from last year's player models against this year's models.

Actually, D12 would be a great start since his biotype is so unique in today's NBA. Not since David Robinson have we seen anyone like him physique wise. So, if his body stands out in real life, it should as well in the game.

Also, here's a photo showing what I wrote earlier about the "fog" effect in Boston:

    seattletimes.nwsource.com/.../2004396899.jpg

NBA Live 06 for the Xbox 360 nailed this effect to perfection:

    screenshots.teamxbox.com/.../NBA-Live-06

I think you guys should re-incorporate that into the game.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 17, 2009

boy225 they have a comparison picture of lebron already. Its on operationsports.com website and let me tell you there is a big difference. You can notice it right when you look at the picture. Live have stepped up the graphics and it looks GOOD.

  • demelash said June 17, 2009

It's probably just me...but does anyone else think that Live 06 graphically is slightly better in some areas than Live 09? And what I mean is the fan models look slightly better, I think the jersey textures look a little better, and I think Peja's muscle definition is pretty good. I'm not complaining, but it's just something I noticed IMO.

I am looking forward to the new live I just wanted to know a couple of things:

1] Will the taking players from their positions be stopped in online play?

EX: Taking Kobe and putting him as a point guard.

2] Will blocking shots be like actual true blocks?

EX: Instead of going up one on one to contest the shot the player ducks or move

          out the way.

3] Will their be more people in the locker room for online game play?

EX: If you have 7 people waiting to play then 5 start while the others watch

from the bench in case someone gets knocked out the system or sub.

4] Will there be less glitches and phantom, ghostly phases through people?

5] Will the game have true to live attributes of players?

EX: Players shooting from everywhere and can't miss.

6] Will all the rules be in the game?

I would really like to see Create A Player really improve! Like have more options with gear, hair, Etc. But this blog has got me really excited for NBA live 10, Cant wait to see the final product.

  • DatGD12guage said June 17, 2009

I think their needs to be more variety of things to do in the buttons like if you want to learn how to play live u really haft to learn like for example a fake pass can be tap the A button, to do a lead pass can be hold A, and a flashy/lead pass can be turbo and A or like on defense have putting a hand in a players face like peitrus did kobe in the playoffs hold Y,tap Y for a foot plant contest and turbo and Y to go for the block u know just do different variations with the buttons to add things that people wouldnt expect.

1).Instead of signature moves sig. shots, crossovers, freethrows, dunks yall know.

2).um differentiate players speeds(make it noticable)

3).add a physics engine yall did it with fnr4 so when theres players getting fouled hard its exciting to watch and do, u know it = nose injuries shoulders etc.

    4).add photo-game face

5).add more realistic dunks I mean sometimes u might even miss right expecially if its hard to do, it would be kool if you could add dunk contest dunks to your created player(just a thought)

I dont think for ea all of this would be hard I think yall r dedicated to satifying the fans this year and I hope u guys hear this and hopefully add most of this to the game and yall would definitely get my 60$ or watever it doesnt matter instead of a rental.

  • TreyIM2 said June 18, 2009

Ok, d-loaded and played the Live 09 demo again (just one quickie, though) and what I forgot to mention about what I feel you guys did better than 2K9 was the on the fly play calling which included plays that could be run for specific player (pure genius, imo), the post game (superb), and right analog for moves as well as using a shot button and a dunk/layup button.

Playing that demo made me realize how much I missed the feel of Live in terms of the controls, from the previous two years. I think I will actually rent the game, today, but I hope you guys don't rip the game apart to the point where those things mentioned above and the pick and roll/fade/pop (that was real hot) don't get removed. I think you guys know the flaws already as pointed out by many on here but I have to actually try the full game for a while before I can really get into what's what with the game. Too bad I won't be able to enjoy 365 for a bit.

  • InfluentSilver said June 18, 2009

Out of 10 of my close friends, a bout 6 are 2K fans, but were all LIVE fans awhile ago. So I am constantly Arguing over which game is better.

My wishes(Now that i know someone is ACTUALLY reading..) :

    - Bank Shots: Please.. D.Wade does them all the time.

    - Post Moves: Feels too limited. Needs a WIDE range of moves.. As in the game.

    - Player Speed: Big men should not catch or outrun shorter players.

    - Dunks: Dunk ON players! Make them FALL, duck or something, just dunk ON them when they are under the rim.

    - Block Shots: Players avg a few again, so we should atleast see 3-5 block shots in every game. And dunks should be easier to block.

    - More User Control: Too many times when I am trying to meet a fast breaker to foul/take charge/steal ect. The cpu moves my player AWAY from the ball carrier... That is a Controller Throwing Moment!

That is about it that I haven't seen many others say. All the other complaints should (and I expect) to be fixed. Live needs to do something quick, 2K's presentation kills.. That is the only thing I like about 2K.

  • rfcredheat said June 18, 2009

    Needs to be fixed!

Fatigue-no point in taking starters out right now.

Scrub players are too good. I put in lopez on suns cause he is tall, gets crazy rebounds, blocks and can score....

Defense!-needs major work. players leaving guys on fast breaks cause its not their man..too easy to get to the basket...biggest flaw in the game is defense.

Offense-too many shots in the lane go in and certain animations always go in.  need more variety...

    Need dunks off rebounds!

  • rfcredheat said June 18, 2009

OOh and during timeouts I want full control of offense and defense.  Ability to select or create a play....

Please keep the dribbling moves with the R stick.  That is the one features that serperates live from 2k

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 18, 2009

can yall fix the alley-oops cause there were plenty of times when I would throw a perfect alley and my guy would catch the ball right at the rim and just come down with it. Why can't he just DUNK the ball for god sakes.

Please fix the amount of missed layups in the game. I have cussed my game out numerous amount of times b/c dwight or any other big man would miss easy a** layups right up under the basket. THATS F***ING STUPID!!!!

if my 3 year old lil boy can make a layup I know yall can make a 7 footer make a damn lay up.

can yall make the dominate players stand out in the game as well. ie make the kobe's, wades and lebrons just feel different from the role players that are on their team and every other average player in the league b/c in real life there's not many people that can hold kobe.

Can yall make the players finish their shot after a foul b/c wade and lebron are one of the best finishers when getting to the rim.

Make the crowd and the annoucers go crazy after a big shot or somebody getting dunked on.

Even make players get hyped like jr smith. ie when he hit a big time three or a fancy dunk on a fastbreak he jumps around and get his team and crowd hyped and into the game.

Add momentum like ncaa basketball 09 so there can be some game changing shots or something along those lines.

Can yall add my boy wade jumping on the annoucer table and yelling this is my house after I hit a game winning shot cause im a beast with him and that would be lovely to see him do that after i spank somebody. lol

  • Dantecamp21 said June 18, 2009

I've seen people talking about the post play in Live 09 lately.

    Some like it, others don't.

I agree that we should see a lot more outcomes from the post play in Live. But the signature go-to moves (specially Duncan, KG and Kobe) are very well implemented and if used correctly, can make real damage.

On the other side of the coin we have 2K's post play wich is almost a game of its own. So many moves, so many outcomes, etc. But it's übber frustrating to pull those moves. I rarelly go to the post when playing 2K9. Even simple things like backing down a defender aren't a sure thing. I'd take Live's limited but user controlled post play any day.

The point is: when improving the post game, please don't take the control out of the user's hand. Make it complex, don't get me wrong. But at the same time, make it efficient controller input wise.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 18, 2009

Another thing that NEEDS fixed in live 10 is the calls. PLEASE HAVE THE REFS MAKE THE RIGHT CALL cause they ALWAYS call offensive foul when it is CLEARLY defensive and defensive foul when it is CLEARLY an offensive foul. Its just soooo f***ing backwards and somethimes it will cause the game. Now that is a controller throwing moment.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 18, 2009

hey marcus im glad that yall are going to show the difference in player models and i hope this year chris paul wont be able to jump up and block yao ming.

Another thing there is this one animation that pissed me off. I was on a fastbreak with steve nash and he went up for a two hand dunk but got blocked. Now when in the hell will steve nash go up for a two hand dunk??? PLEASE MORE REALISM thats all the game needs.

dantecamp21 the post game in live is WACK and thats comming from a live fan. Dominate post players like shaq and Dwight are not that affective in live. In real life you would have to double them quick but in live I would leave them one on one with a scrub and still shut them down. REDICULIOUS

  • Dantecamp21 said June 18, 2009

xBillieDaTruth, I didn't said it was perfect nor good. I said it was limited but at least the user had the control of the sutuation at all times.

I agree with you, it needs to be improved. But I don't think it's totally broken,

  • warrior310 said June 18, 2009

yea guys like tony parker shouldn't dunk, maybe have them do a soft dunk but dont let them just throw it down hard.

when you save videos of a play you like, could it be listed as a video on playstation 3 so you can watch it without having to start up nba live.

it would be cool if you can show the bench players drinking gatorade.

it seems like you could never shake a player in nba live, they always stay up playing good defense even when your during great moves.

    could computer/user teams relocate,change logo,build a new arena,and get sponsors.

i hope the create a team will be like ncaa's teambuilder if you put it in.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 18, 2009

Dantecamp21 I just think the post game is wack b/c you cant go to work w/ a big man and they are a big part of the game. I just think dominate players should be more affective thats all and i don't think the user had control at all times b/c if you hit the b button to do a hook shot the man would pump fake side to side instead of shooting the ball. THATS NOT USER CONTROL. thats being stuck in an animation.

I hope nba live added procedural awareness b/c the computer is down right STUPID.

They would see the ball rolling right past their feet and not even attempt to pick it up or sometimes(rarely)they would attempt to pick the ball up but dont even grab it.

Why is it that sometimes my man will go for a steal and dont get it and he will be dribbling an imaginary ball down court. WTF

  • YuNgDrEsTa said June 18, 2009

nah but 2k does have great post play when you go to practice mode and learn how to do all of the moves you know i use it against friends because they dont know how l0l

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 18, 2009

can yall add to the game where we can be able to change our shot in the air. So if i am going up for a dunk and see that im about to get blocked i can switch to a lay up or something.

  • xBillieDaTruthx said June 18, 2009

I hope yall put in photo game face like fnr4 cause it would be nice having my created player with my real face and winning championships and awards. That leads to my next question can yall have like a list of generic names that you could choose for your created player so the annoucer can call out your name instead of just saying number 3 with the nice shot.

  • Dantecamp21 said June 18, 2009

YuNgDrEsTa, I actually took the time to learn the moves in the 2K9 practice gym. But they aren't intuitive at all. Too hard to pull them off. It should be easier. But that's just my opinion.

I think the IsoMotion controls are complicated as well, but at least I was able to master some of it. Can't say the same thing for the post play though.

Now changing the topic of the discussion, one of the most frustrating things in Live 08 and 09 was the fact that the scoreboard was placed on the top of the screen. In my opinion, the scoreboard on the bottom (like in Madden NFL 10) would be better suited for the game. That's a no-brainer in my opinion.

damn, cant disagree, looks like LIVE is back. But what might be coo, if u bring back tha superstar freestyle maneuvers or whatever, it was back in '06 n '07, I thought it was pretty cool. but I got used to playing without 'em. but yo u know what would be great, changing broadcast, ya know keep the broadcasters saying all types of things, not just the same thing over and over again ya know? keep the game what the title is- LIVE. keep the game alive. dunks gotta be spectacular, blocks gotta have the ability to change a game, etc. Im not asking for much, just bring LIVE back to the good 'ol days.

  • street_soldier13 said June 18, 2009

also, better crossovers, better material in create-a-player, ya kno it'd be great if the PA announcer actually say their name. Or last name at least along with the jersey number. And for certain rookies too, like I created D.Rose in LIVE '08, n the broadcasters say his name, but in NBA Live '09 where Rose is IN the game, they just say his jersey number. trust me if EA gets ALL of this, LIVE b put back on the map and knock off 2K

    here's the thing,

i want to know if nba live 10 players i mean ALL players will have their photos on the game. because some live players in 09 and 08 have no photos and the players(like us) feel its ugly when some players have no photos befor the game or in introductuion. especially when ur in 2nd year dynasty. the rookies will have no photo at all.. look at all nba 2k. they had pictures on it.

    also...

the 2nd, 3rd , 4th and above yr dynasty rookies should let the announcer/commentator of the game SAY their name.

this will be look so good. check 2k9. no offense nba staf.. but i hope u change the game.

This next one I'm sure everyone has seen by now, but I'll post it anyway..

    www.youtube.com/watch

I wanted to show these two clips to emphasize that whether its during the regular season against a bad team, or in the conference finals against a good team, there is still celebration/drama at the end of games. I'm sure the LIVE team has their own plans already on this subject, but I just wanted to share my opinion.

MY last post was Interrupted.  But it went something like this.  Plain and simple...PUT LIVE BACK ON TOP.  I'm tired of that fake A$$ 2k that's been fooling people all these years.  2K is filled with animation movements that you can do nothing about.  I want to actually play the game.  PUT LIVE BACK ON TOP. PLease, take out anything that doesn't belong on an NBA floor...Red, Blue, or Yellow hot and cold spots, Arrows, Diagrams, Maps or Whatever that's not seen watchin a REAL NBA game or while playing REAL basketball.  That stuff is meant for the practice areana ONLY! Let me say that again...THAT STUFF IS MEANT FOR THE PRACTICE AREANA ONLY!!!! If you must put it in there how about ONLY IN ARCADE MODE.  "E..A..Sports...If it's in the game...It's in the game" (Original Slogan) remember that?  GO BACK TO IT!..STICK TO IT!..LET THE GAME LIVE OR DIE BY IT!

Not sure if this has been requested or not.

Please put a delay on Icon passing. For example with 2k9 when you hit the button to pull up icon passing you just tap it and the icons stay up for a delayed period so the user can make the proper pass without holding onto the icon pass button. This allows for smoother Icon passing, especially on fast breaks.

I'd also like to see a save progress option. Odd request I know but hear me out. I know this option was in madden where you could save at any point in your game. When you're playing 10 minute quarters that 40 minutes and sometimes life happens..... Like a nagging girlfriend or child [Laugh]! It's a game guys this should be an option in franchise mode at the least. If I can save at any point in Call of Duty it has to be possible in a sports title.

    Looking forward to Live 10.

Damn, I was in the wrong spot for yesterday's podcast. Here it is - beta.easports.com/.../EASL_061809.

Marcus - Another thing you should keep is the on-court play diagrams. That was another piece of pure genius. It's better than having to study a play's movement on the play screen THEN come back to the actual game, call the play, then try to remember how it works. Some plays are more intricate than others and can easily be forgotten how to be run. If you missed the rest of the things I said you guys should keep, here is the post:

Ok, d-loaded and played the Live 09 demo again (just one quickie, though) and what I forgot to mention about what I feel you guys did better than 2K9 was the on the fly play calling which included plays that could be run for specific player (pure genius, imo), the post game (superb), and right analog for moves as well as using a shot button and a dunk/layup button.

Well since your in a listening and responding mood EA...THIS IS WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN IN ORDER TO PUT 2K ON THEIR BACK POCKET!!!!!!!!

We need tip dunks and put backs back in the game!!!! PERIOD! I'm also hoping Mike Wang fixes those canned animations. (You said that would be your main focus Mike, don't let your boy down!) Also responsive gameplay and online franchise along with great presentation would put Live back on top! 2k was a good game it had the little things that made it pretty to look at but I hated the controls. Attention to detail EA!!....ATTENTION TO DETAIL!...You got to go hard to beat 2k. I know ya'll have it in you to make us believe...hell, we want to believe! At least most of us. So listen...the minor details, there important...think 2k then think beyond 2k. I dont give a damn about you biteing or copying what they already have...you got to do what you gots to do! From bumping into reffs to crowd animations. Diving for loose balls. Jump balls mid game when getting tied up with another player. Swiping at the ball when some goes up for a layup, maybe causing a turnover. Highlights for Pre-game halftime and post game got to be on point with some good commentary. Ya see, 2k has all of that. Then going beyond 2k...signiture stuff like Lebron claping powder on his hands pre-game,(by the way this is an old post that i wrote when you gave your press release so good to see the rosin being clapped by the king),any way.. rebounding battles with players tipping the ball in the air until someone ends up with it. Finally bring the arenas to life...their boring as hell...you know...cheerleaders, mascots, benches ect. To another blogers point you use your updates well and effectivley for the DNA, why not update the sneakers mid season. I mean really, how hard could it be to scan a sneaker and down load a patch for that? You got to inovate people, I'd be speaking for everyone when I say WE NEED THAT WOW MOMENT FROM LIVE! You know what I'm sayin...that HOLY SH*T MAN DID YOU JUST SEE THAT MOMENT! Madden has giving me my football jones back. Ian Cummings from the Madden Team is my new favorite person in the sports gaming world right now. Will Mike Wang and the NBA Live 10 team shock the world and reclaim the NBA video game crown or will this be another disapointing year...time will tell and so will the upcoming previews.....good luck people, here's to hoping this is our year! Time to man up and earn our money! I'm out.

Please comment and respond to this cause I'm curious as to what EA's people think..as well as my fellow bloggers.

    where is the gameplay update

  • DatGD12guage said June 19, 2009

xBillieDaTruthx Q (Can yall add my boy wade jumping on the annoucer table and yelling this is my house after I hit a game winning shot cause im a beast with him and that would be lovely to see him do that after i spank somebody. lol)

    Yeh dat sh**a be nice....

Ita b kool 2 if they add haircuts in dynamic dna it would be interesting to c ron artests mo hawk from the playoffs.

but as far as presentation I wish ea would add like more crowd reactions like if I crossover yao the crowd would b like O....... Lol

as far as gameplay start over and get rid of the robotic movement im sure everyone will come up with fresh ideas off of what mike wang brings to the table ea's pretty talented.

what I didn understand tho was y didnt EA just add sig. shots, crosses, etc. like 2k instead of one sig move, that doesnt really seperate the players from one another in the sense of being a next gen game. People wanna be shocked when they play a baskeball game because its so much variety, but really for the first time I believe that EA will shock a lot of ppl b/c as u probaly guessed Ima 2k fan but I cant quite c how some ea fans could already say ea is gonna b better than 2k so early and neither one has come out yet, dont be satified with everything they say and give them 60$ b4 u even play the game they might hold back some for next year when yall shoulda been had nba live 10 if u wanna make them change and make a better game critisize them a lil they feed off of negative energy as well as good I'm finna go do the samething to 2k lol
