Listen to the golden voice of Gordon

Here are some mp3 clips of my favorite Gordon MacRae songs. I have far too many favorites to feature here. This is but a sampling. I hope you enjoy! Just click on the title, choose open file from current location, click OK, wait for song to download, enjoy! Some files are large and take some time, so be patient.

Gordon NEVER recorded this Cole Porter hit on any formal recording. This cut comes from a July 10, 1950 Radio broadcast of The Railroad Hour, featuring hit songs reviewing the year of 1934. Mp3 is about 1:34 in length.

On the May 11, 1965 TV broadcast of The Telephone Hour, Hoagy Carmichael hosted a Musical Tour of Tin Pan Alley. One of the highlights, again, exclusive to this site, was this personalities Medley of the day. This mp3 features in order, from the original broadcast, Hoagy singing G. M. Cohan's "Give My Regards To Broadway," the remarkable Leslie Ugghams singing "Bill," Bill Hayes crooning Rudy Valee's "Vagabond Lover," Carol Lawrence's lovely rendition of "Love Me Or Leave Me," and Gordon's timeless rendition of Bing Crosby's "The Blue Of The Night." 5:08 in length.

Gordon and Jo Stafford released a 45 rpm record in 1955 called SONGS OF CHRISTMAS. This rarely heard medley from the recording includes HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING (Chorus), THE FIRST NOEL (solo Jo Stafford) and O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL (solo Gordon). 2:57 minutes long

A 1978 Sandcastle Records vinyl LP release CHRISTMAS AT BOYS TOWN. Gordon was the featured soloist with The Boys Town Choir. Extremely rare. 4:16 minutes long

Gordon originally performed this song in his 1953 film THREE SAILORS AND A GIRL. This solo recording came from his April 1955 album ROMANTIC BALLADS (Capitol T-537). The song would become one of his most famous. 3:13 minutes long

This rare cut was recorded for the 1955 film THE LAST COMMAND. Gordon did not appear in the film, but can be heard singing the film's theme over the opening credits. The song was released on a 45rpm record, but never on an album. 2:37 minutes long.

Released on the 1957 Capitol Records album COWBOY'S LAMENT, HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY remains a timeless classic with the help of Van Alexander and his orchestra. 3:54 minutes long

Released in 1953 as a 45 rpm double set (FBF-422) and as a 10 inch record (H-422) on Capitol Records. Full album contained songs from the 1953 film by the same title, but featured June Hutton performing the vocals with Gordon. 2:46 minutes long

Released in 1955 on the album OKLAHOMA on Capitol Records (SWAO-595). The album rose to the #1 spot on the Billboard charts and stayed charted for 305 weeks. 2:34 minutes long.

Released in 1956 on the soundtrack album CAROUSEL (Capitol SW-694). The album topped out at the #2 position and remained charted for 59 weeks. The song was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Duet with Shirley Jones. 6:18 minutes long

Released in 1964, only on the rare album FIRESTONE PRESENTS YOUR CHRISTMAS FAVORITES, this song is a rare treat. Holiday tunes have always been hard-to-find for Gordon fans over the years, and once heard, each one of the few he recorded becomes a Yuletide tradition. This one came from a promotional compilation LP and features vocals by Martha Wright. 3:19 minutes long

Released in September 1966 on the album IF SHE WALKED INTO MY LIFE (Capitol ST-2578). The song is from the musical "Man of LaMancha". 2:54 minutes long

Originally released in 1949 as a 78 record on Capitol (57-690), this inspirational duet with Jo Stafford became extremely popular. It entered the charts on August 20, 1949 and topped out at the #4 position. It was subsequently included on their album MEMORY SONGS (Capitol T-428) and their 1962 album release WHISPERING HOPE (Capitol ST-1696). This is the full length song and may take a few minutes to download. 3:30 minutes long

This inspirational duet with Jo Stafford also became extremely popular. It was subsequently included on their album MEMORY SONGS (Capitol T-428) and their 1962 album release WHISPERING HOPE (Capitol ST-1696). This is the full length song. It includes an intro by Gordon from the Here's To Veterans radio show. 3 minutes long

Originally featured in the Disney animated film LADY AND THE TRAMP (remember the spaghetti eating scene?), Gordon released his recording in 1955 on a 45 rpm record on Capitol Records (F 3122). It was later included on the 1995 Compact Disc compliation THE BEST OF GORDON MACRAE (EMI 7243 8 354322 9). This is the full length song and may take a few minutes to download. 2:55 minutes long

This one is an exclusive to this site and was never included on any Gordon MacRae album or formal recording of any kind. It was performed once, live, on the Ed Sullivan Show on July 3, 1969. It is a wonderful recording which should be shared with future generations and I think is an important patriotic contribution during these trying times. Enjoy. 2:50 minutes long

Taken from his Nov. 28, 1954 appearance as host on The Colgate Comedy Hour this one is a rare gem. It features Gordon singing with his oldest child Meredith Lynn the classic Irving Berlin song. 2:35 minutes long including the intro. You won't hear this one anywhere else.

An early Gordon recording, a 78rpm release from 11/22/1947. 2:34 minutes long

The classic from the movie of the Sigmund Romberg operetta, THE DESERT SONG. Gordon at his best. Remastered from an old 10 inch 33rpm record. 3:50 minutes long

Another of Gordon's best from his recording of THE STUDENT PRINCE by Sigmund Romberg. Remastered from an old 10 inch 33rpm record. 2:14 minutes long
