WWE News: WWE changes the names of two more PPVs; Report on WWE fan input leading to changes Jun 27, 2009 - 2:30:07 AM
WWE changed its PPV line-up for the rest of the year to include one PPV on October 4 called "Hell in a Cell" and another PPV on October 25 called "Annihilation."
The October 4 PPV replaces No Mercy, which has been a yearly PPV since May 1999 when it debuted in the U.K. before becoming an official WWE PPV in October 1999.
The PPV main event of the No Mercy 2002 PPV was, ironically, a Hell in a Cell match between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker for the WWE Title.
The October 25 PPV replaces Cyber Sunday, which was WWE's interactive PPV with the fans booking match-ups or stipulations. WWE has not indicated whether that format will be retained with a different name.
WWE already changed the name of the September PPV to "Breaking Point" after utilizing the "Unforgiven" PPV name in September since 1999 as well. BP will be an all-submissions match format.
WWE initiated the changes eight days ago when it sent out a fan survey asking WWE fans to decide on new names of PPVs. WWE asked fans what name they would give a PPV featuring all Hell in a Cell matches. The options were "Hell in a Cell," "Lock Up, and "No Escape." Apparently "WWE Hell in a Cell" won out.
WWE also asked fans to decide on the new PPV name for Cyber Sunday. The options included "Annihilation" and "Blackout." Annihilation apparently won out.
WWE PPV Line-up 2009
-- 6/28: The Bash
-- 7/26: Night of Champions
-- 8/23: WWE Summerslam
-- 9/13: Breaking Point
-- 10/4: Hell in a Cell
-- 10/25: Annihilation
-- 11/22: WWE Survivor Series
-- 12/13: Armageddon (for now)
Knowing WWE, the Hell in a Cell PPV will not feature a Hell in the Cell
match.

You know, instead of changing names to PPVs, they should just simply remove
PPVs in general. I'm sick of seeing a PPV every three weeks.

WWE copying TNA's Lockdown
... Lock-Up? ... really?
No Escape sounded better, and that's not saying much

Annihilation, does this mean that they will actually annihilate each other?
Probably not. And Hell In A Cell will probably be Triple H and Orton for
the umpteenth time. The reason for all the PPVs is to keep making money.
Someone will keep buying the PPVs no matter what. There should only be 4
PPVs a year. Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series.
Anything else is overload and stupid.

Doing only 4 PPV's a year isnt the anwser...because the increase in buys
for the BIG 4 wouldn't be enough to cover the lost ones. So thats not
gonna happen.
I think WWE thinks this is their way of freshening up the PPV's....but
personally think WWE needs 2 overhaul the overall look of their entire
product. The scratch WWE logo has been around for 12 years. Watch the
open of a WWE show. You can almost predict what shot they are going to go
to next.
WWE needs an extreme makeover....even if they dont do anything "extreme"
anymore...

Having an all Hell in a Cell pay-per-view so they can officially kill the
aura of that match? Here's a thought, maybe people would buy pay-per-views
if there weren't 14 of them a year priced at $45 each, and $60 for
WrestleMania. Seriously, one per month is MORE than enough or if they had
good enough writing to warrant it. Smackdown and ECW are still pretty
decent, but Raw sucks ass right now and Raw is more likely to get half of
the matches on a pay-per-view anyway. Having a gimmick for a pay-per-view
can work under certain circumstances. The old Survivor Series will all
elimination matches, fine. King of the Ring with a one night tournament,
fine. An interactive pay-per-view, fine if done right.
But Hell in a Cell is a match that should only come along when a feud has
reached a certain point and needs to be settled. There have only been 14 of
them in 12 years, and they were one or two per year, not 6 or 7 on one
night. Pretty bad when WWE is stealing the Lockdown concept from TNA. Hey
lets throw these guys who have only been feuding a month in Hell in a Cell
or lets throw a bunch of guys with nothing better to do in Hell in Cell.
Its bad enough having two Elimination Chamber matches at No Way Out, but if
they're spaced out with one starting the show and one ending the show, its
at least partially acceptable. Extreme Rules having all gimmick matches has
gotten old fast. Whats the point of having those gimmick matches at other
pay-per-views when a feud actually needs settled when they just had two
guys fight in that type of match for no rhyme or reason a couple months
ago? Whats next, 3 or 4 Royal Rumble matches in January? An all ladder
match pay-per-view? These are supposed to be rare matches that are special
each time you see them, not run into the ground so much that people don't
care about them anymore. What happened to the philosophy less is more? It
doesn't matter if you do 6 or 7 Hell in a Cell matches on one night or do a
Hell in a Cell match every 2 months, it dilutes the concept either way.
I was fine with them having Hell in a Cell at a different pay-per-view each
year (Badd Blood in 1997, Bad Blood in 2003 and 2004, King of the Ring in
1998, WrestleMania in 1999, No Way Out and Armageddon in 2000, strangely
none in 2001, Judgment Day and No Mercy in 2002, Vengeance and Armageddon
in 2005, Unforgiven in 2006, Survivor Series in 2007 and Summerslam in
2008.) They were spaced out enough and built up well where it made sense.
I'll wait and see how they do it, but I don't think it will be a good
idea.
Agreed WWE needs a new logo and a makeover. They had the block logo for the
Rock n' Wrestling Era, the slanted logo for the New Generation Era, the
scratch WWF logo for the Attitude Era and the current logo for the....Brand
Extension Era? As the late great Owen Hart said: Enough is enough and its
time for a change.

JEREMY GET A LIFE
on a side note, an all submission PPV can go either way. Not every one is a
great technical wrestler and should not even be in a submission match.

"What happened to the philosophy less is more?"
The WWE philosophy, for many years, has been "excess is never enough."
Here's some pay-per-view names that didn't quite make the WWE ballot: WWE
Uninteresting; WWE Over Exposed; and of course WWE S.O.S (Same Old Sh*t)

That's not a PG name. Maybe they will have a Cena PPV and name it STFU.
Oops I mean STF.

I'd be willing to bet anything that the Hell in the Cell pay-per-view would
have two HITC matches top, not an entire pay-per-view with HITC matches.

I think if anyone is going to get an entire pay-per-view to themself, it'll
be HHH.
Welcome to WWE Egomania!! Tonight HHH battles the Colons, THE Brian
Kendrick, Matt Hardy, John Morrison, Even Bourne, D.H. Smith, and T.J.

If it wasn't for satellite piracy, the WWE wouldn't be on half as much.
Funny how TNA gets slammed but Vince keeps copying their product. What can
you expect with an organization that is all sizzle with no steak. I'd lost
it years ago for wwe because the part-time wrestler, the Undertaker, would
show up for a couple of months to win at Wrestlemania. WWE rules in name
only.

I have been looking up as much news as I can on this. And from how it looks
WWE is not going to make every match a Hell in a Cell match. Only the main
events will be Hell in a Cell matches. TNAFan is right. And WWE Breaking
Point is going to be the same way. Only the main events are going to be
submission matches. Now when it comes to WWE Annihilation there have been a
couple different reports. Most are hinting that this is just going to be a
regular ppv with a new name but some are not sure what is going to happen
with it

27 Jun 2009, 17:21
By the way just because my name says kid doesnt mean i am a young kid I am
actually 16 in case anybody is wondering
marc
27 Jun 2009, 18:47
sorry bro, 16 is a young kid.
and that's great. so instead of a TNA knockoff we get a No Way Out
knockoff.

Talk about uncatchy names..Naming a PPV after a match its unorigina,I was
fine with No Mercy and Unforgiven! Now they have to build up a new idk call
it history with the new names..Poor Trish Stratus now the new kiddie fans
will not remember where she retired or in the least know who she was.
Kid from New Jersey
27 Jun 2009, 20:02
Kind of but not exactly because fans probably like the No Way Out idea of
having two elimination chambers so they make this because they know the
fans like it and as long as they split up the matches with one at the
beginning and one at the end the fans will enjoy it
Kid from New Jersey
27 Jun 2009, 20:08
I partly agree with you Rose but the wwe did not name them they had the
fans do it with surveys I personally like WWE No Escape for the for Hell in
Cell because they probably wont be doing each match in HIAC format it will
just be main events. But that probably is to similar to No Way Out.
Breaking Point is a pretty good name and although Annihilation sounds a
little corny it stills gives a tough extreme name.

Please! If they do an all Hell In a Cell PPV, it would take the term
"watered down" to a whole new meaning.I would probably cry, honestly. & an
all submission PPV would be the most boring, depressing thing ever.
P.S. The Bash is the stupidest PPV name in history.Extreme Rules is a very
close second.Apparently, Vince hates having fans.Keep up the good work, you
out of touch douche!I weep for the future...
