The new chapter in the Fable series was mentioned in the New York Times on Friday, but not in the way you’d expect.
In the Times’ Weddings & Celebrations section, which isn’t typically subject to errors, the wedding announcement of Lionhead Studios employee Joshua Atkins stated that he was the “lead designer of Fable III.” The sequel to the last year’s Xbox 360 action-RPG has not yet been officially confirmed.
However, it’s not the first time the game has been confirmed by a non-official source. British TV personality Johnathan Ross mentioned being asked to lend his voice to the game in his Twitter feed earlier this year, and even responded to questions about the title.
It should be no surprise that Lionhead would be planning a sequel to the multimillion-selling videogame. The British studio’s creative director Peter Molyneux had also hinted at the new game when talking about Fable II’s last round of DLC “See the Future.”
But the guessing game isn’t if there will be a Fable III but when, considering how long we had to wait for Fable II.
We’ve checked in with Microsoft and will update you when we hear back. (Update, as promised: Microsoft says it has “nothing to announce regarding future Lionhead Studios projects.”)

I absolutely loved the first Fable game. Probably my favorite RPG. Sure, it was short and somewhat unsatisfying because of that. But it was the first RPG I had played that was so rich and easy to pick up and play.
After falling for Fable I bought an xbox 360 for the sole purpose of Halo 3 and Oblivion. After playing Oblivion, no RPG will ever come close. I thought Fable 2 had a chance. I hoped it would be everything it was hyped up to be. All playing Fable 2 did was make me thirsty for Oblivion.
I don’t have much expectations for Fable 3.
I would suggest that the game creators make it more open and rich like Oblivion, but also just as easy to pick up and play, like the other Fables.
I really doubted whether Fable II would be any good after all the hype - and although it never quite reached those dizzy heights, I did find it a thoroughly enjoyable game.
Peter Molyneux always seems to add something new and charming to his gaming creations…and they rarely disappoint. I’ve been a big fan of his since Dungeon Keeper and Populous!
Fable II had me glued to the screen for hours as I battled bandits, did my best to keep my dog alive and religiously checked every nook and cranny for keys and gargoyles. If the rumours are true, and Fable III is on the way, I will be first in line to buy a copy. Maybe the co-op could be improved a little though???
After all the success of the last two, I don’t doubt another sequel is on the cards…but isn’t is possible that the writer of this wedding announcement just made a typo though?
