Sen. Byrd released from hospital
West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd was released from the hospital today after battling two infections for more than a month, his office has announced.
He is now recuperating at home and undergoing physical therapy, according to the statement.
“I am pleased to be home in anticipation of celebrating our nation’s birthday with my loving family," Byrd said. "I also thank everyone who sent me their good wishes and prayers.”
The 91-year-old Democrat is the longest-serving senator in U.S. history. As we have reported, he was admitted to the hospital May 15 with what aides described as a minor infection. His departure was delayed after he contracted a staph infection.
