This competition is now closed.According to a new survey out today, over a quarter of people in the UK have made cut backs to their insurance policies - whether that be on their home, car, travel or even life insurance - in the face of current economic conditions. However, the research, carried out by insurance specialist RIAS, suggests that 40 per cent admit feeling guilty or stressed about such cut backs on insurance.

Household burglaries could escalate by 50 per cent as the year draws out, according to Norwich Union. In 2008, More than 280,000 burglaries were reported, according to Home Office statistics, but the insurer predicts that will increase by more than 140,000.

Insurance fraud has become big business in the recession. Insurers are currently getting more than 2,000 false claims a week while around 107,000 claims worth 730m were discovered to be false last year, according to the Association of British Insurers. That was a leap of 30 per cent in value over 2007.
