The table below lists in progress/upcoming and recently completed design and construction projects, the agency and department responsible for the project, and funding status (by fiscal year). You can view additional information about each project by clicking on the link(s) in the more column. Additional information may include results from Planning studies located on the Downloads or Archives page or the agency or company page containing plan documents, which may be located outside of the Brevard MPO web site.
*Agency Contacts: FDOT Statewide Construction Database **Status D 20xx - Design fiscal year More Information The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed a Project Development & Environmental study in 2000 that examined alternative alignments for the widening Apollo Blvd. to 4 lanes and extending the road across the Eau Gallie River to connect to Eau Gallie Blvd. (SR 518). The design of the proposed improvements is currently scheduled to begin in 2006/07. The preferred alignment extends Apollo Blvd. from its current terminus to the northwest across the Eau Gallie River to connect with Eau Gallie Blvd. at Commodore Blvd. For more information, contact: Florida Department of Transportation Toll Free: 1-800-780-7102 Malabar Rd. (SR 54) to SR 50 The Florida Department of Transportation completed a Project Development and Environmental (PD & E) Study for the six laning of I-95 from the Malabar Road (SR 514) Interchange to the SR 50 interchange. The proposed improvement is to widen I-95 to the inside with the new travel lanes to be constructed within the existing median. Consequently, the median width will be 40 feet, including the shoulders and will contain barriers to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming lanes. The typical section from the PD&E study is shown below. Right of way acquisition for the 34.4 miles from Malabar Rd. (SR 514) to SR 528, with a new interchange at an extension of the Pineda Causeway is in progress, and construction will begin in FY 2008. The estimated design/build cost is $260 million. Construction of the ten miles from SR 528 to SR 50 is funded in FY 2009 at an estimated cost of $48 million. SR 50 to Volusia County A preliminary engineering study into the six-laning of 17 miles from SR 50 to the Volusia County line is in progress, with design to immediately follow the study, and right of way to be purchased in FY 2007. Indian River County to Malabar Road (SR 514) A preliminary engineering study into the six-laning of 16 miles from north of CR 512 in Indian River County to Malabar Rd. (SR 514) in Brevard County begins in 2005, with design funded in FY 2006, and Brevard County right of way in FY 2010. Contact FDOT for more information (800-782-7102). The Max Brewer Causeway is the swing-span bridge connecting the City of Titusville to the north section of the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (MINWR) and the Canaveral National Seashore. The bridge was constructed in 1948 and has deteriorated significantly. Brevard County is currently rehabilitating the bridge to maintain functionality until FDOT can replace the existing moveable bridge with a permanent high-rise bridge. For more information, contact: Brevard County Public Works Phone: 321-617-7202 The Florida Department of Transportation has completed the design of the realignment of the offset intersections of NASA Blvd. and Ellis Rd. at Wickham Rd.. The proposed realignment would form a traditional "+" intersection where Ellis Rd. currently ends at Wickham Rd. by curving NASA Blvd. to the north. Construction is programmed to begin on the section from Minton Rd. to Knecht Road in 2006-07and will continue in 2007-08 from Knecht Road to RJ Conlan Blvd. During the first phase of construction, improvements will also be made on Babcock Street at the Palm Bay Road intersection. These improvements will be constructed to align with the proposed future widening of Babcock Street to 6 lanes. In 1998, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Brevard MPO completed an Arterial Investment Study for South Patrick Drive (SR 513) from DeSoto Pkwy. to the Pineda Causeway. That study recommended reconstruction of the current roadway, with one through lane in each direction and a grass median or center two-way left turn lane. The recommendations also included improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians. Design of improvements was completed in late 2004. The improvements include reconstruction & widening of existing shoulders, resurfacing and re-striping of lanes to provide a center two-way left turn lane, and improvements to the intersections at Cassia, Jackson, Ocean, Sandpiper and the Pindea Cswy. Ramps. Construction of the improvements is funded in FY 2008 at an estimated cost of $11 million. Construction of operational improvements along the 2.4 miles from Barnes Boulevard to Eyster Blvd. is funded in FY 2009. Widening from Eyster Blvd. to Cidco Rd. will begin in FY 2008.
