Reagan/Mitchell Family Stories

Please send me your family stories and I'll link them from this page.
IMPORTANT: They don't have to be published stories or well-written, just memories jotted down.

William Andrew ("War") Reagan and the American Civil War -- Research has finally paid off with details of his service and in what battle he was wounded and the significance of that battle.

The Death of William L. (Brack) Mitchell -- H.C. Mitchell's grandfather was a deputy sheriff in Eskota, Texas, when he was gunned down by a man he was taking to jail. Verbatim story from the front page of The Abilene Reporter, dated Friday, April 28, 1899. Click Here for a layout of the Mitchell plot in the old Sweetwater cemetery, where "Brack" is buried.

"Pop" Reagan Is Bicen "Builder" in Big Spring -- A "life story" of Pop article I wrote that appeared in the Sunday, Nov. 16, 1975, edition of the Big Spring Herald.

"War's Last Summer" -- A feature I wrote for the Abilene Reporter-News a couple of years ago based on the letters my mother and father exchanged during the war.

"Memories of a mother who was always there" -- Article I wrote that appeared on the front page of the Abilene Reporter-News on Sunday, May 12, 1985 (Mother's Day) ... a few months after Mom died.

"A Sense of Backie" -- The remembrance I wrote about Dad that appeared on the pew pamphlet at his funeral service at the Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring, Monday, March 9, 1992, at 4:00 p.m.

A Case of the "re-re attacks" -- Column Steve wrote about his father shortly after he died in the spring of 1992.

The PK Cosden Cabin Column -- Sandra has asked for a copy of this. I'm still looking. If I find it, I'll put it on the site.

Family Bible Record -- This is a copy of a sheet from the old Wells family Bible (relatives on the Reagan side), with dates of happenings recorded from 1849 to 1878.
