Variety is reporting that Renee Zellweger will reprise her role as a British publishing exec in yet another installment of the Bridget Jones series. The project from Working Title is untitled and not expected to go into production until the end of next year. The movie will likely focus on Bridget's attempt to have a baby in her 40s, according to the report.

They're going to have to clean house of those characters. If she's still got those same stupid, three friends coaching her through her life at 40, and the slime-ball Daniel Cleaver slobbering all over her neck while looking at every other woman in the room, then I give up. Mr Darcy is my fantasy, too, but let's face it, he could use a backbone. To me, the second movie looked like they tried to recycle footage left on the cutting room floor after the first movie. That kind of lame effort screams money grab.

NOOOOOOO!!!! Renee Zellweger killed the second movie playing a bad, bad parody of Bridget Jones of the first movie! It was obvious Firth and Grant thought the movie script and premise awful... it came through loud and clear on the screen. Please NO! Don't ruin my fond memories of BJD.

I am more than a bit surprised that they would attempt a 3rd BJ movie. The first was fabulous...the second was tolerable. While I love Colin Firth in ANYTHING and love to hate Hugh Grant's character of Daniel Cleaver, I feel that Renee played a caricature of Bridget in the second movie. Bridget was not endearing anymore, she was just plainly pathetic.

This always happens when a movie star...star starts to tank. They want to rehash a character from an earlier big hit. The first Bridget Jones was the best. Colin Firth never looked better especially that scene in the kitchen before Bridget's friends came over for her birthday. He looked so shy and sweet. Gawd that man is fine. To quote Jack (from 30 rock) "That man can wear sweaters" The second one sucked though I can understand Bridget staring at him while he slept. NO NEW BRIDGET JONES!

NO! Bridget Jones 2 was quite terrible. Let the memory of the first great movie remain and stop now!!

Samsara Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 01:38 PM EST

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I absolutely love the first Bridget Jones - thought Renee was delightful as BJ. Second movie - not so much. Renee exaggerated Bridget to a distracting degree and Renee just looked "off". Please leave well enough alone. Nothing can ever come close to the first book and movie.

Josie Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 10:41 AM EST

UGH. This is not a movie I'd be willing to see. Why, Why, Why? There is no reason for this movie to be made, none at all. I guess Renee figured this was the only way to get a job without resorting to porn.

I wish Helen Fielding would write another book. She didn't and I just missed it, right?

Zo Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 09:42 AM EST

Madly in love with the first movie... the second, not so much. (Although I loved the book, actually!) Yeah, as long as Colin Firth is back, I'm in. And GoodGodAbove, Renee needs to put a bit of weight on!!! She's been a pogo stick with clothes lately...

Pleeease no Beban Kidron in the director's chair for this one... she ruined what was, actually, a funny and touching follow up (the book anyway)by making it ridiculous and unbelievable and way toooo over the top.

GS Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 08:08 AM EST

I hope they make it better than The Edge of Reason. I loved the first one but they made her too frumpy and plain in the second one and she was just ridiculous. But I LOVE Colin Firth so I'll be watching it. There is just something about him. And how did Bridget get to be in her 40's? She was 33 in the last movie!

mjade27 Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 07:26 AM EST

wow - the 2nd movie was not good, but if Colin Firth is back, I'll watch this one (pretty tired of Renee, though).

Alli Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 06:43 AM EST

The second movie was superfluous, and made a mockery of our beloved Bridget. I really hope these executives come to realize how bad an idea this is, but the probably won't.

Funny

Lia Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 01:34 AM EST

Trust Hollywood to take a funny movie, make a profit, and then beat the movie in to the ground with sequel after sequel because they're too lazy to come up with an original concept if one made money before

I read somewhere they were thinking of going with "Bridget Jones: Zellwegger Needs a Hit BADLY!"

Kind of a mouthful I think.

Wow... I thought we'd see a 3rd "Bridget" book before this ever happened. Helen Fielding, where'd you go?
