Leeds Met - finalist in Times Higher University of the Year award

Leeds Met was second in the Times Higher 'university of the year' award and has won the 'outstanding contribution to the local community' award.

Leeds Met 'highly commended'

CELEBRATIONS from students and staff at Leeds Met greeted the news that the University was highly commended as a finalist in the Times Higher 'university of the year' award. The award recognises the wide range of quality courses and outstanding value for money offered by Leeds Met. Leeds Met was praised for its 'low-charging, high impact' fees policy. For EU students Leeds Met has the lowest fees of all the UK universities.

For all international students our competitive fees secure not only a place on one of our high quality, internationally-recognised courses but also include free English language support, free travel service on arrival, subsidised International Social Programme excursions, and discounted postgraduate course fees. Scholarships are available for international students.

Leeds Met is a university of festivals and partnerships which creates opportunities for inspiration. We also offer an International Welcome Programme and a free travel service which means that students can arrange to travel to their accommodation free of charge when they arrive in Leeds. A full list of all of the activities included in our January 2007 international welcome programme is available on our website; this includes Campus, City & Sports Tours, Library Tours Workshops, International Welcome Party and Excursions to some of the top attractions in the UK.

Leeds Met won the award for 'outstanding contribution to the local community' in recognition of the University's pioneering partnership with local football club, Bradford City, which involved lecturers and placement students working jointly with the club. Our work with international partners and organisations is an extension of this pioneering approach and some of our recent international projects such as the Sanjay Nagar Leprosy Rehabilitation Project in India, our work with the Durban Children's home in South Africa and volunteering projects in Poland and elsewhere have been achieved with equally great success. This reflects the university's commitment to giving something back to local communities around the world.

Congratulations from around the world
