Move over Limp Bizkit. Death metal forefathers Slayer are ascending from the underworld to comb the country for a new drummer.

Unlike Fred Durst and Co., who are road-tripping it from one music store to another, auditioning guitarists to replace Wes Borland (see "Limp Bizkit Dodge Pies, Send Female Angus Young To Finals At Guitar Auditions"), Slayer are relying on videotapes and snail mail to find their next blood-guzzling skin-basher. The best submissions will be invited to audition in person in February in Dallas, San Francisco or Peoria, Illinois.

The group was forced to search for a new drummer after Paul Bostaph's chronic elbow injury forced him into early retirement. Bostaph had been with the band since it recorded 1994's Divine Intervention.

Days after he quit, Slayer announced that their original drummer, Dave Lombardo (Grip Inc., Fantômas), would rejoin them to finish the tour (see ""Original Slayer Drummer Dave Lombardo Back For Tour"). The news came as a surprise to longtime fans who remembered Slayer's harsh words about Lombardo after his departure following 1991's Seasons in the Abyss.

Lombardo will play the remaining 21 shows of the band's current tour before disappearing again into the mist. The group's next gig is Wednesday night in New Haven, Connecticut. The last date of the tour is February 23 in Detroit. Slayer's management insists that Lombardo's reunion with the band was never intended to be permanent.

Drummers interested in auditioning for Slayer should send a résumé and a VHS video of themselves playing along with the following songs: "Disciple," "God Send Death," "Stain of Mind," "Angel of Death," "Postmortem/Raining Blood," "South of Heaven," "War Ensemble" and "Seasons in the Abyss."

Drummers available for the Peoria callbacks on February 1 must submit audition materials by Saturday. Those who would rather audition in Dallas on February 7 or in San Francisco on February 13 have until February 1 to submit their video.

Slayer were recently nominated for a Best Metal Performance Grammy for the song "Disciple" from God Hates Us All, released in September.

"I never expected to be included in this circle of musicians," guitarist Kerry King said in a statement. "But now that we finally are, I guess we are really good."
