The deal is done! Obafemi Martins is now a ‚Wolf‘!

VfL sign Obafemi Martins

Wolfsburg - VfL Wolfsburg have signed the Nigerian international Obafemi Martins from Newcastle United. The 24 year old striker signed a four year contract to bind him to the ‘Wolves’ until June 30th 2013. Martins had passed the mandatory club medical examination earlier in the day.

“He’s exactly the kind of player we have been looking for to compliment Grafite and Edin Dzeko. He’s not only very fast, but he has also proven that he is dangerous in front of goal,” remarked VfL head coach and board member Armin Veh: “As he can also be used in a wide position, we have the option now of playing with two or even three strikers. Considering how young he still, he has already gathered a great deal of experience in Italy and England. He is also familiar with the Champions League.”

In the 2006/2007 season, Obafemi Martins made the move to Newcastle United, for whom he made 88 English Premier League appearances and scored 28 goals. Prior to his English adventure he had spent four years in Italy’s ‘Serie A’ with Inter Milan, with whom he won the Italian championship in 2006. “I’m delighted that the transfer has worked out. The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world and I’m very happy to be playing for the German champions. This is a massive challenge.”
