Shedlight

ShedLight logo Shedlight will make the world around you to be your “read and write” media.

This is not necessary something that we will try out very soon in the MobilED Initiative, but definitely something to think about. This spring’s New media and learning workshop 2006 of the Media Lab Helsinki we made a concept called Shedlight.

Shedlight is an applications running on smart phone making it possible to find and add multimedia annotations to locations where you are.

You may scan your surrounding through the camera of your phone. If other Shedlight users have left annotations to the space they are shown as a little notes in the screen. You may also leave your own multimedia note (text, picture, audio or video clip) to any place where you are with your phone.

To avoid the world becoming very messy the Shedlight should have RSS-feed kind of feature where you could register to include in your view only those notes that are according to your preferences. E.g. show me only notes in Finnish, show me only notes left by my mom, show me only notes that are “educational”.

We made a video mock-up that explains the concept. Please give us feedback and comments.
