BLACKPOOL'S Lynette Horsburgh opened the new season in style by pocketing the opening Ladies International Pool Tour event at Miscues Pool Club, Barnsley.
The current world champion lifted the £700 winning prize thanks to a 7-5 win over seven times world champion Sue Thompson in the final.

Horsburgh said: "It's a great confidence boost to win the first tour event – it is especially sweet to beat Sue in the final.

"I am always quite hard on myself but I'm pleased because I played well all weekend."

Lynette knocked out the recently crowned European Champion 6-2 in the semi-finals after a 6-5 deciding frame win in the quarters over former world champion Emma Cunningham.

The BBC web producer will defend her world title at Blackpool in July at the Imperial Hotel.

"I'm really looking forward to playing as the defending champion. I'm going to make sure I enjoy it!"

Lynette is next in action at the Festival of Pool in Hinckley over the Easter weekend in the Barcelo Open and Barcelo Team Classic.

Her partner Karl Boyes – who got to the semi-finals of the World Nine-Ball Championship – is going back to his eight-ball roots to compete in the event, too.

Blackpool pool professional Lee Clough will also be starring in the Festival of Pool.
