Because last year, Infosys became the first listed Indian it company to clock a billion dollars in revenue. Because the company's business model, outsourcing, became a key issue in the US presidential elections. Because he is the IT ambassador of India whom leaders of state confer with. Because he has led a crusade for corporate governance in India Inc. Because he is the middle-class face of capitalist India.
     
 
Power moment: When Infosys became the first Indian company to be listed on the Nasdaq in 1999, the president of Nasdaq told him, "This must be a small step for Nasdaq but it is a giant leap for Infosys and the Indian it industry."

Cool buddies: Rohan, his 21-year-old son who is a senior at Cornell University, and daughter Akshata, a first year MBA student at Stanford.

Favourite line: "You don't need to be a nice person but be a fair person. Niceness can at times take away objectivity."
