Wohoo, someone posted a link to the video of my half walking robot on youtube from a blog on Make magazines website - suddenly I have had hundreds of hits and several subscribers. My thanks to Dave Hrynkiw who runs Solarbotics for sending the twee...

Something like the beagleboard with onboard graphics hardware and usb host support but atmega (and arduino) based would be uber awesome, building a pda like device has been a project for ages now, i have tried once before with running linux on a d...

Ah, nice, my project might be a bit redundant then. They based theirs on the standard Arduino, I hope they make one based on the new Arduino Mega so you get more I/O's though.

Have you seen this project http://blogs.leaflabs.com/2009/08/maple-prototype/ Looks similar.

Tom, have you seen the Gumstix range of computers: http://www.gumstix.com/ They are fairly cheap and you can get everything you need to make your own linux based PDA.

The devices have a flexible static memory controller so it would be easy to add some on-board flash or you can use its SDIO controller for interfacing to memory cards. Adding a memory card slot would be simpler and cheaper though. I think trying t...

I'm pretty good at Java so I'm good to help out with any coding. I'm also fairly proficient at C++ and C# if that's of any help.

Internal pull-ups sweet. I know where to get nice boards made up on the cheap. I am sure Chris can code a working complier - there is not a lot he can't code ;-) Adding Cool Beans too!!

About you:
I'm just writing up my PhD thesis at sussex. I'm interested in, and researching for my thesis, actuators for robots that can behave more like muscles so instead of the usual stiff servo type actuators I'm trying to develop ones that can be programmed to behave like variable spring damping systems - with some success.

Details about my research project are here and I have just started a blog which you can visit here.

I also like making small wheeled robots that travel as fast as possible and have various ideas for commercial robotics applications that I want to pursue when I have the time.

My research project - Part 1

I've just put together, or rather significantly updated, a website that details the work I'm doing for my PhD. In very general terms it is partly about re-designing the hobby servo motor to make it suitable for robotics. This involved giving it the ability to control the forces it can generate rather than just control angles and velocities. With force control you can then get the servo to behave like a software controlled spring damper so you can make your robots legs, arms or grippers soft spri… Continue

@robotbrighton Best bet is just to ignore everything he says, however interesting it sounds. It's usually complete rubbish. :-)

@j4mie I did have to think hard when I saw who it was, but thought it was still interesting. Perhaps could have done with a caveat.
