Activities
Community Renewal supports a broad range of activities in response to the identified needs of communities. These activities can be broadly categorised into the following areas:
- Strengthened families. These projects provide new or improved family support services such as conflict resolution training and early childhood services.
- Community safety. These projects improve community safety through initiatives such as street lighting and crime prevention awareness campaigns.
- Education and skills. These projects provide improved education, training and lifelong learning opportunities such as alternative schools, skill sharing arrangements and traineeships.
- Economic development and access to jobs. These projects help develop a community’s local economy through initiatives such as small business development and employment programs.
- Health and well-being. These projects provide new or improved social and community services such as healthy eating education programs.
- Infrastructure and amenities. These projects provide new or upgrade existing infrastructure such as community centres, and improve the appearance and utility of local neighbourhoods through activities such as park upgrades, tree planting and pedestrian lighting.
- Mobility, access and communication. These projects help improve the accessibility of information, services and physical resources in communities. Examples include new bus routes and well-located services.
- Identity and culture. These projects help strengthen a community’s cultural development and sense of identity through activities such as youth arts projects and community story-telling.
- Community capacity building. These projects help individuals to develop skills and knowledge, and provide resources to assist community-based groups.
- Community engagement. These projects help community members to participate in community life.
