Museum Profile
Fitzroy Falls is a magnificent waterfall located in the Southern Highlands of NSW, within Morton National Park. The waterfall is accessible from the Southern Highlands and Kangaroo Valley being on a popular tourist drive through the Southern Highlands and the majestic mountains of Kangaroo Valley. The Fitzroy Falls Visitor Centre is a National Parks and Wildlife Service Visitor Facility managed by the Department of Environment and Climate Change - NSW State Government.
Each year 250,000 local and international visitors enjoy the well presented Environmentally Friendly Visitor Centre. The centre is designed on Eco-Tourism principals using solar power and environmentally friendly building materials including recycled bridge timbers and local Bundanoon sandstone.
Visitors enjoy extensive bushwalks around the waterfall encountering many beautiful native plants and animals, including the musical Lyrebird that is regularly sighted on the walk to the Falls. The visitor centre provides visitors with a window into the National Parks of NSW and the local area, providing interesting up to date information on all things environmental.
An Eco-Tourism principal of involving local artists/craftspeople and small cottage industries of the Southern Highlands and South Coast Region to exhibit work at the centre, provides the visitor with the opportunity to enjoy and purchase local products including photography, ceramics and silk that are displayed and changed monthly. Major touring exhibitions such as “Nature Personified” by Helen Leitch, the Wollemi Pine display and Indigenous Art Exhibitions offer the visitor a wider view of current environmental and cultural delights. The centre provides guided tours with Discovery and Indigenous Rangers, fees and bookings are required.
