This hot spring is found at the eastern base of Mt. Zao at a point 330 meters above sea level. It is a well-known hot spring located on the left-hand shore of the Matsu River at the eastern entrance of the Zao Echo Line. Legend has it that this historic hot spring resort was opened in 1601 which currently consists of. 20 traditional Japanese-style inns of various sizes and two public baths respectively called Kotobuki-no-yu and Kami-no-yu. At Kami-no-yu, you will find a tourist information center and a foot bath. The area is also known as the starting point for the climb up Mt. Zao or to go skiing. From any one of the inns, you can enjoy the dynamic view of the Zao mountain range. A little distance away is the Shinchi Shuraku, the production center of traditional Kokeshi dolls and wooden toys. At the Miyagi Zao Kokeshi-kan, various types of the dolls are exhibited while you can also observe the production process.
