PU expresses solidarity with armed forces
Thousands of students chanted slogans, sign national songs
LAHORE : ( Tuesday, October 20, 2009 ): Punjab University Student Teacher Centre ( STC ) organized “Pakistan Zindabad Rally” for the unity, integrity and solidarity of Pakistan here at New Campus on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran led the rally in which deans of faculties, heads of teaching departments, faculty members and thousands of students participated enthusiastically. The rally was started from Institute of Business Administration ( IBA ). Faculty members and students participated in rally singing national song ‘ Is Parcham Kay Saaye Talay Hum Aik Hain' and raising slogans of ‘ Pakistan Zindabad', waving national flags. They were also holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan . Later, huge gatherings of students and teachers joined the rally as it marched towards Hailey College of Commerce, Law College and Undergraduate Studies. The rally was concluded at Institute of Education & Research (IER) where a ceremony was arranged.
Addressing on the occasion, VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said the purpose of rally was to express the resolve that PU was ready to give any kind of sacrifice for the integrity of Pakistan and students' enthusiasm showed that how much love new generation had for Pakistan . He said that world must know that the youth of Pakistan was ready to scarify even the last drop of their blood to make the country unconquerable. He said the objective of rally was also to washout the fear in city and country and tell the world that Pakistani nation had high determination and they were peaceful and were ready to face any sort of circumstances. He said the rally was also aimed to present rich tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country and show solidarity with Pakistan Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies who had been performing important duties to establish peace in the country. Dr Mujahid Kamran said Pakistan was heart of Muslim Ummah and PU was heart of Pakistan . He said Punjab University always remained at forefront on national issues and played important role. He said PU produced many great scholars, researchers, scientists and politicians who earned fame for the PU and country and present PM Yousaf Raza Gillani, Javed Hashmi and Jangir Badr were also PU students. He asked the students to concentrate on their studies as they were the future of Pakistan . He quoted Allama Iqbal's poetic versus to promote nationalism among the students.
Advisor Students Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry said PU had proved by organizing such rally in such circumstances that it was the greatest varsity along with being the oldest seat of learning. Besides providing education and training PU is also promoting love for the country among students. He said the rally would bring positive results and the environment of fear would be dispersed.
Earlier, students of Hailey College of Commerce sang national song “Ye Watan Tumhara Ha Tum Ho Pasban Is Kay”. Faculty members and students sang “Jeway Jeway Pakistan ” and raised slogans “Pakistan Zindabad”.
