Iran’s Khatami awarded 2009 “Global Dialogue Prize”

Washington, 21 October (WashingtonTV)—Former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami has been awarded the inaugural “Global Dialogue Prize”, the Iran Labor News Agency [ILNA] reported on Wednesday.
The biannual prize, established in 2009, is an award “for excellence in research and research communication on the conditions and content of a global intercultural dialogue on values,” according to the official website of the prize.
Khatami, president of Iran from 1997 to 2005, founded the International Institute for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilization in September 2004.
According to ILNA, Iranian philosopher and theorist, Dariush Shayegan, was among those nominated for the award.
The award includes a 500,000 Danish kroner prize [100,000 dollars], which makes it one of the world’s largest awards for research in the humanities, according to the prize website.
The prize, funded by the Global Dialogue Project Group – a consortium of public and private sponsors – will be assigned biannually from 2009 to 2017, and perhaps beyond.
The award committee consists of 10 international researchers and scholars and five members of the Global Dialogue Project Group.
The award ceremony for the 2009 prize will take place in January in Denmark’s second-largest city, Aarhus.
