Hear Daft Punk, Justice, Gorillaz, Dizzee Rascal Blends From DJ Hero Game

Hear Daft Punk, Justice, Gorillaz, Dizzee Rascal Blends From DJ Hero Game

DJ Hero, Activision's new Guitar Hero-esque video game that aims to mimic the scritchety-scratchity of turntablism, is in stores now after an avalanche of hype. In the game, you control a single turntable, using it to go back and forth between songs, cutting and scratching whenever the colored bars tell you to. The resulting hybrid tracks aren't mash-ups, exactly; they're closer in spirit to classic DJ blends, the kind of thing you can still hear during lunchtime mix shows on most rap radio stations.

DJ Hero rounded up some pretty prominent folks to put together some of these blends, like DJ Shadow, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and the late DJ AM. Artists blended together include Daft Punk, M.I.A. David Bowie, Beastie Boys, and Beck. Jay-Z and Eminem even got their own special version of the game, the Renegade edition. (You can see the complete list of DJ Hero tracks here.)

Below, we've got audio of a few of those blends, many via Stereogum. The DJ Hero YouTube channel also has a ton of snippets.

Google Makes Searching for Music Even Easier Than It Already Is

It's damn near grandparent-proof. Google Makes Searching for Music Even Easier Than It Already Is

As if finding music on the internet wasn't simple and straightforward enough, search engine giant Google is now making it even more simple and straightforward.

OMFG: It's a Birthday Cake Made to Look Like Lil Wayne's Head!

For Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's daughter! OMFG: It's a Birthday Cake Made to Look Like Lil Wayne's Head!

At any given moment, Lil Wayne is both stoned enough and weird enough that he'd probably eat an entire cake made to look like his own face. So the Rapper Eater might want to holler at Rosebud Cakes of Beverly Hills, the people who created the above masterwork.

Yes, it's a birthday cake. And it was made for the birthday of Ireland Basinger-Baldwin, daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. (Via Idolator, via Gawker, via Flickr)

Licorice dreads! Chocolate sunglasses! Remarkably accurate face tattoo reproduction!

Yes, this exists, and no, we can't believe it either.

Watch: New Basement Jaxx Video [ft. Lightspeed Champion]

The lovely electro ballad "My Turn", featuring UK songsmith Lightspeed Champion, is a definite highlight from Basement Jaxx's recent Scars LP. So it's nice to see it getting some extra attention in the form of a music video featuring Mr. Champion dressed in several silly outfits alongside psychedelic, animated polar bears, who proceed to tear, cut, and blow up his heart into tiny pieces. Check out the video, directed by Tomek Ducki, below (via Stereogum):

Molina & Johnson Plan U.S. Tour

Plus: Hear another song from the Magnolia Electric Co./Centro-matic collaboration Molina & Johnson Plan U.S. Tour

At most shows, you're lucky if you get one beloved indie singer-songwriter. But if you hit up any of the shows on the American leg of the Molina & Johnson tour, you'll get two. (Or three if you count the opener, former Come/Codeine member Chris Brokaw.) The duo will tour Europe next month. In January, they'll make their way back to the U.S., with Brokaw in tow.

As previously reported, Magnolia Electric Co. frontman Jason Molina hooked up with Centro-matic leader Will Johnson to form the duo, and their self-titled album is coming November 3 from Secretly Canadian. Molina recently chatted with us about the collaboration.

We already reviewed album opener "Twenty Cycles to the Ground", and if you click below, you'll get another track from the album, the sad but oddly comfortable "Almost Let You In", as well as the duo's full touring itinerary.

The xx Cancel Shows Due to Exhaustion

The xx Cancel Shows Due to Exhaustion

Playing approximately three hundred CMJ shows can wear a group down. Just ask the xx, who are currently suffering the consequences of a particularly busy time in New York City last week.

Last night, they were forced to play a London gig without keyboardist-guitarist Baria Quereshi, who was absent due to "exhaustion," according to a spokesperson from their label. For the same reason, the xx have canceled four upcoming European gigs.

The band will be back in action for their November 3 show Frankfurt, Germany, along with the myriad dates booked through the beginning of March. Just looking at their schedule makes me feel a bit light-headed.

Look at the world from a curious mouse's point of view in this clip from No Age, for the title track off of their latest EP. Definitely make sure to stay tuned through the end of this one, which was directed by feature film helmer Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember). Watch it at Pitchfork.tv or after the jump:

5-10-15-20: Fuck Buttons

Andrew Hung on Chinese opera, Kylie Minogue, and Suicide. 5-10-15-20: Fuck Buttons

Welcome to 5-10-15-20, in which we talk to artists about the music they loved at five-year interval points in their lives. Maybe we'll get a detailed roadmap of how their tastes and passions helped make them who they are. Maybe we'll just learn that they really liked hearing the "Visionaries" theme song over and over when they were kids. Either way, it'll be fun.

For this edition, we spoke with Fuck Buttons' Andrew Hung, 27.

Odd Couple of the Day: Richard Hawley Working With Lisa Marie Presley

Odd Couple of the Day: Richard Hawley Working With Lisa Marie Presley

During a Richard Hawley set in London earlier this month, Lisa Marie Presley showed up and played a new track called "Weary" alongside the veteran singer/songwriter, who co-wrote the tune with her. (Somehow, this is not on YouTube.) It was an unlikely-- if pretty darn cool-- team-up.

And now, according to a press release, Hawley and Presley are "working on new material together." Where this material will end up, exactly, is still up in the air.
