“Castle” (10:02-11:00 p.m.) (info via ABC)

For the 2nd consecutive week, ABC’s “Castle” outperformed NBC’s “Jay Leno” in the 10 o’clock hour with its largest margins to-date in both Total Viewers (+5.5 million viewers – 9.4 million vs. 3.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+100% – 2.4/6 vs. 1.2/3). The sophomore drama saw week-to-week increases among Adults 18-34 (+6% – 1.8/5 vs. 1.7/5) and Women 18-34 (+10% – 2.3/7 vs. 2.1/6), posting season highs in both measures.

Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory was up a tick from the early numbers with adults 18-49 (via CBS):

THE BIG BANG THEORY (7.7/12, 12.73m) was tied for first in adults 25-54 (5.8/13, with FOX), second in adults 18-49 (4.7/11) and adults 18-34 (3.5/09).  THE BIG BANG THEORY built on its TWO AND A HALF MEN lead-in by +4% in adults 25-54, +7% in adults 18-49 and +17% in adults 18-34.

via NBC:

At 8 p.m. ET, “Heroes” averaged a 2.5 rating, 6 (down from a 2.6 in the preliminary numbers) share in adults 18-49 and 5.9 (down from 6.2 in the preliminary numbers) million viewers overall in a highly competitive time period that includes Fox’s World Series coverage, CBS’s comedies and ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”  In the time period, “Heroes” is the #1 non-sports telecast on the major networks in men 18-34.  “Heroes” is one of the most time-shifted shows on television, adding 32% to its 18-49 rating so far this season when going from these next-day “live plus same day” ratings to “live plus seven day” figures.  In total viewers, HEROES adds 1.5 million viewers to the previously reported “live plus same day” results when “live plus seven” ratings are released

  1. Cullen says:

    Yay for Castle!

Robert that link is wrong you’re missing a T in Twitter

  2. Cullen, yikes. Twiter indeed. Fixed (and Travis JUST posted the full finals, which I have now added above, too).

  3. Hot Pocket says:

I think they should keep Trauma around, the show has a chance if put behind Mercy.

Castle not dropping is good news.

  4. Samantha says:

Looks like MNF affected the World Series’ ratings a little bit.

  5. Michael says:

Ouch- Trauma dropped to a 1.9- looks like NBC was right to cancel it.

  6. Cullen says:

Ouch Trauma dropped .2 and is that a Monday low for Leno?

  7. The Monday Night Football game airing on the NBC affiliate in one of the local markets boosted Trauma in the preliminary numbers.

I think a 1.2 is a new Monday low for Leno and tied with the overall low.

  8. the128boy says:

Trauma drops .2? Good thing they pulled the plug.

Castle looks better for a 3rd season. Not aguarantee, but better. Some season highs after a series low for a Monday DWTS, that bodes well for a 3rd season.

  9. Tommy says:

Even if Trauma didn’t drop, a 2.1 wouldn’t justify it staying around.

  10. Ron says:

The Big Bang Theory is the only CBS sitcom to go up in the finals. Up .1. Great job.

  11. johnthemon says:

Dangit! Oh well at least Heroes was even with last week. NBC is probably indirectly happy that Trauma fell 0.2.

  12. Tony says:

what does he % coverage mean?

  13. james says:

    @Robert:

The New Orleans-Atlanta MNF game was on NBC in the New Orleans market. The Saints pull great ratings.

  14. Make a note.

Monday Night Football, locally next week 11/9:
    Pittsburgh: WTAE 6 ABC
    Denver: KTVD 3 MyNet

Thursday Night Football (NFL Network), locally 11/12
    Chicago: WPWR 8 MyNet
SF: KBCW 12 CW (the new VampDiaries episode will air at 9pm)

  15. Tony, NBC’s national broadcast normally is available in 98% of the US, but last night since the local NBC affiliate in New Orleans ran the Monday Night Football game, NBC’s coverage dropped to 97%. I didn’t see the data Travis is citing, and I’m sure behind the scenes of what he saw there is rounding involved, but the bottom line is Heroes, Trauma and The Jay Leno show were available to ~1% fewer homes than normal.

  16. Bill Gorman says:

Tony, coverage means what % of the nation had the show available.

  17. In case you’re wondering,

“Dancing with the Stars” will air in Pittsburgh on Tuesday 11/10 at 9 A.M. to 11 A.M.

The new “Supernatural” episode will air in SF on Saturday 11/14 at 8pm.

  18. Jane says:

3.92 for Leno. I’m loving it.

  19. Smallville says:

J.R. Which episode and why? Also good for Castle and lets hope they get better and a 3rd season. Castle is the one show my whole family watches and i dont want to lose that.

  20. Lee says:

That’s good to see Castle didn’t tick down. I think that’s happened two or three other times this season.

  21. Tony says:

    Thanks Robert and Bill

  22. pisher says:

Castle’s best friend right now is Jay Leno–people are abandoning Jay, and some are going over to Castle–for a while. But this isn’t a brand new show anymore, and these ratings are still far from acceptable for a show with this lead-in, only one declining scripted show against it (which beats Castle even when it’s a repeat and Castle is first-run), and of course, Leno–Castle’s best friend.

But such friendships are not meant to last, and sooner or later Castle is going to be expected to prove it doesn’t need all these advantages. And it can’t, of course. And then falls the axe. :)

  23. Californicatmayorofsmpleton says:

    1. Castle looking better and better for renewal as its lead-in drops and it remains at these levels. Not a fan, but it is holding up better than the other 10pm offerings.
    2. A 2.1 for trauma wouldn’t justify a back 9, a 2.1 this week, followed by 2.4 the next, and steadily up probably would have. It will remain at 1.8-2.1 levels and air out all 13 and die. The only justice would have been if it never aired at all.
    3. Jay Leno isn’t doin so hot at the moment…
    4. Heroes will return barring a huge political shake-up (corporate buyout/merger… like what killed some WB shows when CW launched)

  24. ej says:

Anyone know how it works as far as what channels in what areas can carry MNF? Here in Philadelphia, ABC chooses to show Eagles game when they are on MNF, and I assumed it was because of the ABC/ESPN/Disney corporate umbrella, but I see that NBC carried the game in NO and CBS did in Atlanta, so is it pretty much something available to the highest bidder in each individual market?

  25. the128boy says:

    pisher,

All that is beside the point. The point is that Castle is pulling a 2.4 at 10pm. That is ABC’s 3rd highest 10pm slot of the week and soundly beats Eastwick and The Forgotten. ABC has other holes to fill than worry about Castle. Like the entire Tuesday lineup for example (we’ll see about V tomorrow… if it even DOES premiere above a 3.0, I doubt it will stay there for more than a couple of weeks)

  26. forg says:

CBS comedies very steady despite being preempted on other places plus world series and football :)

  27. TomKH says:

OTH finaly matched Gossip Girl’s W18-34 ratings, and out rated it in any other category.

  28. Lee says:

What was Castle pulling last year to get it renewed? I wanna say 2.4 but my memory is not as good as it once was.

I do know that Castle sticking closer to 2.5 looks a hell of lot better than clining to the 2.0 side of things. Wether that will be enough again who knows.

  29. mayorofsmpleton says:

Castle’s renewal hinged on it being able to grow. It’s got a fairly good lead-in (though comments about it being the BEST are a little off. Wednesday/Thursday evening would likely have good or better demo lead-in but would be mostly rougher competition…). What hurts its chance for renewal is that it’s not growing from season 1 at all. It looks better and better the worse Dancing does because it’s retaining a higher percentage of the demo lead-in… but it needs to climb to a 2.5-2.7 average if it hopes to survive. That said, I’m guessing if it starts to average a 2.5 ABC will give it a shot for yet another season — if only because nothing was an out of the box success this season and they will have some slots to fill.

  30. Budo says:

I guess it’s most often forgotten that Castle only had a 10 episode first “season” so that makes this week’s episode 17th overall. It’s not like it’s missed the window on heating up the audience, it barely had time to start. Having said that, I didn’t particularly enjoy this week’s episode as it was somewhat lacking in the Castle/Beckett interplay, which is the core of the show, and was rather case-heavy. I’m hoping the writers are gonna start building up the back story and the more personal stuff because case-of-the-week format does not cut it at this point, ratings wise.

  31. Amanda Dubs says:

I’m very glad that Castle didn’t go down this week. Personally, it’s my favorite show to watch week after week. It has never dissapointed me. I do hope it continues to improve, though.

  32. Rick L says:

Does anyone else here think that NBC going back to their origianl Monday night schedule will help Heroes at this point? Will Chuck at 8 be a boost for Heroes at 9?

  33. Mickey says:

Interesting how Gossip Girl’s ratings are so unstable compared with 90210 (both keep criss crossing eachother in the season averages so far).

It seems like one episode is up, then they next is down, rinse, repeat.

This is the third time GG’s ratings have dipped below 2 million viewers, compared with 90210 only dipping below that mark once.

  34. Atlantans can catch Monday’s comedies on Sunday 11/8 from 2pm-4pm while the Redskins play the Falcons on FOX. CSI Miami already aired on Tuesday at 5pm.

  35. Dingo says:

Expect a larger than average drop for ABC next Monday since the Pittsburgh affiliate will be broadcasting the reigning champion Steelers on MNF against the 6-1 Broncos.

  36. ddmc says:

Good to see Castle growing. The writing on this show for most episodes is supurb and, of course, the sexual tension is a draw. Hopefully, more people will discover it and stay. We used to watch CSI: Miami, but it got old fast. Castle is the only show my husband and I both watch.

  37. Smallville says:

its funny castle is like in the top 5 of most talkative topic of shows.
