Winning for a second time from Tura in Meghalaya, she belongs to the NCP.

"It was a very pleasant surprise. Because, I had the honour to receive a call from the Prime Minister. He informed me that he has inducted me into his Cabinet," she said.

She first entered the previous Lok Sabha through a by-election and was reelected this time also.
