Comcast's to blacklist and throttle pirates

By nostalgiphile in nostalgiphile's Diary

Tags: bittorrent, bandwidth, comcast, internet fascism, pirates, oil (all tags)

from the NYT:

"Comcast is starting to test new approaches to protecting its network from what it describes as congestion caused by a handful of customers who use far far more bandwidth than everyone else. Until now, Comcast has been using devices that interfered with the BitTorrent protocol--the most common method for downloading large files from computers of other users. BitTorrent is often used by people exchanging pornography and illegal copies of movies, but creators of video and software also choose to use BitTorrent as an inexpensive way to distribute their creations."
The corporations are against the Michael Crawfords of this world, therefore we hate them.

Has ANYONE, at any time, ever successfully downlaoded that History of the Luftwaffe 1991 DVD via bittorrent or p2p? This is about the 11th time i've tried and I have no hopes of getting this time either. If any of yuo peoples have, was it not this movie and am I wasting my time? There appears to be absolutely ZERO info about this film on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and the various torrent sites.

They are being sued from 3 sides, but I wonder if the bigger dilemma will come from the digital version of OJ's Murder Confession book, but that's just my stupido speculation...Anyways, Sweden, I think I still love you.

Critique A Short Essay On Free Music?

By MichaelCrawford in MichaelCrawford's Diary
Sun Nov 04, 2007 at 06:38:45 PM EST
Tags: Free Music, Writing, Ogg Frog, BitTorrent, Piano (all tags)

I am relicensing my album Geometric Visions from the Creative Commons ShareAlike 2.5 license to the CC-SA 3.0 Unported license. To do so, I'm updating not just my web pages, but all the artwork related to my album, such as the CD case insert, the label that's printed on the CD itself, sheet music and so on.

This means I need to regenerate my BitTorrent .torrent files. I'm taking the opportunity to add some new material to the torrents, such as the sheet music in PDF, midi and Lilypond format.

My case insert is presently printed on one side of a piece of paper, cut to size, then folded in half. So there's a front album label, and when you open the CD case you see the back of the label. But if you remove the case insert and unfold it, the inner two pages are blank.

My new torrents will include a PDF for the inner pages of the case insert with a short essay entitled "Why Free Music?" as well as a short history of my piano, which I inherited from my grandparents.

Don't worry - it's very brief; my draft is posted within.

Poll: Inner case insert - Emergence score or Why Free Music Essay?

With Microsoft getting rid of XP and support of XP soon, will people be forced to use Vista, or end up scrubbing the desktop like scurvy dogs and run the Windows XP: Pirate Edition instead?

Ask Kuro5hin: What Is BitTorrent?

Internet

Some people whine about things like BitTorrent apparently is downloading as slow as molasseses in January in Alaska, and whine about it their Kuro5hin diaries.

No one is advocating downloading illegal torrents, but legal ones like Linux ISOs, Michael Crawford FLOSS format songs, etc.

This story can help you make BitTorrent download faster.

It looks like it could be the first story Orion Blastar wrote that was approved

I wrote a story to the story submission queue. I only found out some parts were incorrect late in the editing parts of it, so I changed it, but later more things were found incorrect but it had moved to the submission queue and I cannot edit it anymore.

Anyway it looks like it will be published. If so this will make the first story I wrote that got published to Kuro5hin and it might even make it on the front page.
