Operational radar target for the ABM forces.

DS-type control-test complexes were developed by V M Kovtunenko at OKB-586. Flight tests of the DS-P1 in 1962 demonstrated the practical use of this method. In 1966 the DS-P1-I operational system started flight tests. It was accepted into the military in 1970 as part of the 'Raduga' complex. Used until 1978, launched by the Kosmos-2 rocket. Colonel Ye S Shchapov was in charge of Raduga development for the military.
