Iran sanctions drama (UPDATED)

Word on the Hill is there is a big push to pass Dodd's Iran sanctions bill by unanimous consent in the Senate (and a similar effort underway in the House). ... State is supposed to send over a letter saying "please wait," but letter said to be slowed up for some reason -- not clear if because of ordinary bureaucratic stuff or inter-agency squabbling. NSC has been completely silent, we're told. Lots of pressure from pro-Israel groups to get this through pronto.

UPDATE: No movement in the Senate in the end today .... that could mean they got either a formal or informal objection from some Senate office. So for now, nothing, it's just sitting there.

Also heard that State did ask Senate to hold off.

More: From yesteday. The initial hotline request came on Monday night, initiated, it seems, by Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ)... The Dems "hotlined" it Tuesday around noon. As of this afternoon it seems to be stuck, possibly because of Administration intervention though not confirmed ...

  1. Nothing will work in Iran but a bloody revolution. Unfortunately their intellectuals, mostly ensconced in protected enclaves safely outside of Iran are worse than the effete western Europeans. Instead of wasting their time smoking cigarettes in Paris Cafes and waxing philosophical about their own self importance, they should have been smuggling weapons into Iran and forming an armed resistance movement. These so-called intellectuals are content watching yet another generation of their beautiful young people ground down into mindless robots with no opportunity lest they tow the party line. The sociopaths that control Iran need to be killed, from top to bottom, from the supreme leader to the common basij thugs on the streets. Check back with me when or if that occurs; otherwise don’t waste my time with the bleatings of a bloated, debauched sycophant senator.

  3. While sanctions against Iran are pretty warranted considering its recent actions this Gasoline sanction or sort will most likely not have much effect, TIME debunked such sanctions as "irans achielles' heel because Iran has been stockpiling Gasoline from China and could simply change their domestic Gasoline subsidies (which would rise gas prices in Iran) and simply blame it on us and could weaken Iran's opposition movement...so these sanctions are a case of Sounds good on paper but doesn't work in reality...

  4. The people that will suffer from the sanctions are not connected to the phsyco actions of the elite whom can probably afford alternative losses.

  5. Exactly..Sanctions never hurt the people they are intended to and the idea that if you push the nation they will remove their government has NEVER worked...Cuba, Iraq, Iran, N. Korea the list goes on...Sanctions just dont work but they sure does look good on Cable News shows..

  6. More typical rear end kissing by the bought Goyim in DC. Story brought to you by another "American journalist" (read Zionist propagandist). Real America has had it with all this BS and it won't be long now.

  7. Laura: Brilliant, as always. Perhaps Teddy Doodie was in Ireland, refinancing the "cottage" that Theresa will live in when her Heinz free flyer miles run out. He's going for a VA loan( with extra terms due to his heroic combat record in year whatever). Sarah, do you have your ears on? You go girl!!!!!

  8. It's worse than that: US firms are already barred under ISA.. If you sere in the govt of one of the Chinese or Russian firms hit by this would you feel more sympathetic to the US or Iran here? We should be driving wedges between these folks, not fostering alliances.

  9. Darn those radical, fundamentalist, religious zealots that forced US into the Iraq 'Shock and Awe', Invasion and Occupation. They are responsible for the creation of millions of Iraqi refugees; hundreds of thousands of Iraqi innocent children, women and men 'Collateral Damages'; thousands of US servicefolks being killed, and tens of thousands maimed. And now they're at it again. To try a repeat with Iran, just so they can continue to build houses for themselves on land illegally taken from the Palestinians, ignore UN mandates, and lie about wanting 'peace', while continuing to instigate 'incidents' to keep their eternal 'conflict' going, so they can continue their depredations. All while claiming that they are always discriminated against, and that they are only doing what 'god' wants them to do. Looks like their 'god' and his opponent, 'allah', are equally demented. Or maybe they just were poorly potty-trained, enjoy war and killing, and haven't yet got around to reading the 'good books' they supposedly wrote.
