From the Movies

A utilitarian droid built for general-purpose applications, RIC-920 ended up functioning as a rickshaw droid in the busy streets of Mos Espa. Other RIC-units have found employ in professional sports, playing in widely broadcast games of nuna-ball.

From the Expanded Universe

RIC-920 is a reliable, unsophisticated unipod droid of a model that has gone largely unchanged for centuries. The stoutly built droids have simplistic processors housed in their curved heads. RIC-920 was one of several unipod droids that pulled unlicensed rickshaws through Mos Espa for weary travelers.

Behind the Scenes

The RIC-920 design was finalized by concept artist Marc Gabbana. Though designed to pull the repulsorlift rickshaw, Gabbana envisioned the droid and the conveyance as two separate entities that were paired together by necessity rather than by design. In the finished film, RIC-920 was an entirely computer-generated creation.
