Chris Llewellyn FACING the Welsh Premier League's 'Big Three' – Llanelli AFC, Rhyl FC and The New Saints FC – in successive weeks would normally be enough to send any manager running for the hills.
For fast-improving Neath Athletic AFC, however, the tough run of fixtures merely provided the latest confirmation that they are becoming an outfit to rival the best.
Neath's return from those three games was an impressive seven points and it could so easily have been a maximum haul as they led 2-0 at TNS before the home side recovered to draw.

Has the Cup magic gone from Wales?

HAS the magic of the cups died in Welsh football? Does winning the Welsh Cup mean as much now as it did pre-1995 when the Football League clubs were still allowed to enter?
Many feel Wales’ premier knockout competition has been devalued since the expulsion of Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham in the mid-90s.
Certainly the cup has lost some glamour with smaller clubs nowadays denied a chance of a dream draw against the big boys, but it is still our national trophy and the one everyone wants to win.

FAW Shock? No, it’s par for the course

I READ with interest and no surprise at all about the FAW’s latest plan to neuter the Welsh Premier League.
Not content with steam-rolling over agreed plans for re-structuring the league in the close season, they now wish to take away any Welsh Premier involvement in the ruling body’s business.
Let’s not kid ourselves, one seat on the ruling council was never going to be instrumental in changing the long established old boys’ network that operates from their plush Cardiff Bay HQ.
Yet a Welsh Premier representation does give the league a vital insight into the policies of the FAW and perhaps some understanding of what its intentions towards its underprivileged cousin are.
