The Burj Dubai compared to the Taipei 101, till now the world's tallest building, and other well known structures.
World's tallest building opening on January 4 Getting closer to the heavens with the incredible Burj Dubai!
On January 4 man will get that bit closer to the heavens with the opening of the incredible Burj Dubai tower.
The incredible and imposing Burj Dubai tower.
At 818m, it is the tallest building in the world by some distance, soaring above the current record holder – Taipei 101 in Taiwan – by an astonishing 300 metres.
The building stands in the desert in the UAE emirate of Dubai and has 160 floors and 57 elevators.
On the 124th floor there is a viewing platform called At The Top which has a public terrace, the highest in the world.
If you’re feeling really brave, you can look down at the view beneath your feet!
Inside the tower is a whole town. The underground garage has room for 3,000 cars and there are luxury apartments, offices, restaurants as well as the world’s first Armani hotel.
But the superlatives aren’t restricted to the tower itself. At its foot is the Dubai Lake, which contains the Dubai Fountain – also the world’s largest.
Water ‘dances’ along the 275 metre-wide fountain, up to a height of 150 metres. Some 6,600 lights and projectors turn it into a multi-coloured spectacle.
The Burj Dubai will be officially opened with a massive party on January 4 2010 at 8pm under the auspices of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. Details of the ceremony are not yet known – but it is sure to be as outlandish as the building itself.
