Our excitement in regard to the Hydrangea is currently twofold. Firstly, we have successfully brought into cultivation a very large assemblage of Japanese forms of Hydrangea serrata, the so-called Mountain Hydrangeas. Not only are these considerably hardier than the typical "Hortensias" (designated by (H) in our listings) or "Lacecaps" (designated by (L) in our listings) generally found in cultivation, they are proving to possess the most precious of any flowers we have ever cultivated. Bred for subtlety, not obesity, they bring an understated elegance to the garden that might only adequately be described as pure charm. Secondly, our endeavors in bringing wild collections of rare species of Hydrangea into cultivation, as well as wild collections of undiluted species already in cultivation, continues to gain momentum.
