Career Staff

The career staff at the fire department include three Captains and three Engineers. The shift employees take care of day to day operations and respond and mitigate the majority of emergencies. Additionally, the career employees are responsible for much of the training and fostering of reserve staff. The career staff are members if the International Association of Firefighters Union, and the California Professional Firefighters.

Reserve Staff

Around 20 fire fighters make up the reserve force of the fire department. These members serve the City on an on call basis, scheduled backup, and augment the full time staff on a daily basis. Like the career staff, reserves train on a regular basis, pull mandatory shifts each month, and maintain a pager which can be used to "call them out" 24/7. Their families and friends are placed on hold when they willingly respond to emergencies. The men and women who make up this force are highly trained, motivated, and make a significant difference in the manor the Healdsburg Fire Department operates.

Explorer Post 19

Fire Explorers have been a part of the Healdsburg Fire Department since 1983. Originally, the group of cadets were supervised by then Engineer Robert Taylor, and Engineer DennisTupper. The purpose of the explorer program was to provide an avenue of occupational learning for the youth, and an opportunity for youth to gain experience, operational ability, and pride in serving ones community. Today, the same opportunity exists, and over the years many explorers from Healdsburg Post 19 have moved on to many professional fields. These cadets participate in training, emergency response, public safety, public education and so much more. Cadets range in age from 14-21. If you would like to participate in such a program, please contact the fire department at 707-431-3360.
