Roy’s day-to-day responsibility is to look after all of the Club’s youngsters at the Hale End Academy.

The Club’s Under-9 to Under-16 Academy teams train as often as three times a day at the facility, with players as young as six also using the east London centre. In all there are almost 120 young footballers based at Hale End.

Roy, a qualified P.E. teacher, is also responsible for the recruitment of youngsters into the Academy.

In his playing days Roy was a useful striker, who was at Arsenal as a youngster before playing professionally for Rotherham United, Leyton Orient and Colchester United. A serious knee injury ended his playing days at the age of 28, and he then went on to coach Colchester Youth for 15 years, then Norwich City for six years, before rejoining the Gunners as a coach in 1998.
