Natural Gas: Facts About Changing Prices and Ways You Can Save Money on Your Energy Bill

Natural gas prices are increasing, and it’s important to note that this is a nationwide trend due to demand outpacing the natural gas supply.

Xcel Energy does not profit from increased natural gas prices.

The increased natural gas prices do not result in any additional profit for Xcel Energy. The company sells natural gas to consumers at the same price that it pays for the natural gas, on a dollar-per-dollar basis with no mark-up. As a natural gas distribution company, the service we provide is the actual transportation of the natural gas. We operate under regulatory oversight of the Public Utilities Commission for each state in which we operate, which ensures that we’re making sound purchasing decisions on our customers’ behalf.

Xcel Energy is committed to helping you manage your energy bill.

We offer several options to help you manage your energy bill and conserve energy. Averaged Monthly Payment, for example, averages your bill over the entire year so you get the same energy bill each month. To learn more about energy conservation, go to our Home Energy Analyzer. This online energy audit will help you determine how much money you can save.

Natural gas prices will continue to fluctuate into the foreseeable future.

Xcel Energy can’t control what’s happening on the national level, or even regionally. Our role is to purchase the natural gas supply on behalf of our customers and to distribute it through our intrastate pipelines. We encourage you to make your home energy efficient and take advantage of our billing options to prepare for the potential of higher prices in the future.
