GIRL OF THE DAY: Natasha Karugire

GIRL OF THE DAY: Natasha Karugire

It was a family affair at Natasha Karugire’s big day out, the showcasing of her collection as well as unveiling the new face of House of Kaine at Kampala Casino last Friday. By family affair save for her parents, President Yoweri Museveni and wife Janet, everybody else was there. Her brother Maj. Muhoozi Kaneirugaba with his wife, Charlotte, sister Patience and hubby Odrek Rwabwoogo and younger sister, Diana and husband Geoffery Kamuntu. There was somebody else missing. Her husband Edwin Karugire, who was out of the country.
The guest list was discreet enough - not more than 120 people and even then, it was obvious some major planning was employed when drawing up the list. Names which featured in the A, A- and B sections of Sunday Visions controversial society structure a few weeks ago, accounted for the majority of the guests.
The lady of the day, Natasha looked coy when it was her turn to speak. Her speech though brief, had an element of humanitarianism to it, when she announced that the proceeds of the auction of her clothes were going to the internally displaced people’s camps.
And when the auction got underway, it was one to saviour. MTN marketing manager, Rita Okuthe, took Muhoozi to war when they both bid for the same dress. But Muhoozi was not having any of it and matched Okuthe’s bids until at sh1.2m, she felt the heat and tactifully retreated.
But that was not the only battle Muhoozi was to win. A two-pronged assault was launched on him by his sister Patience and Maria Odido and again, he prevailed taking the dress for sh1.3m.
Crystal Newman and Dennis Matanda did well to get guests to dig deep into their pockets. Eugene de Wint of Swan Air was so determined to walk off with one of Natasha’s dresses that she persisted despite being out-bidded on several other dresses she dug her heels in and eventually bagged one for sh1.1m.
Others who got involved in winning bids were Loy Tmusiime, Sudhir Ruparelia, Patience Rwabwoogo and Maria Odido. And the new face of House of Kaine is Belinda Mungaya, who sashayed down the mini catwalk to a thunderous applause.
