Thematic Photographic: Urban

Posted by MissMeliss on Sep 16, 2009 in Coffee Cantata, Foodstuff, Nostalgia, thematic photographic

There are few things that seem more urban to me than classic diners. Mostly an East Coast thing, and dying out even there, diners are uber-streamlined coffee shops where the coffee is strong, the burgers are greasy, and desserts generally run to things like rice pudding (heavily laden with raisins), and cherry pie.
The diner [...]

Thematic Photographic: Perspective

Posted by MissMeliss on Sep 2, 2009 in Foodstuff, thematic photographic

I wasn’t going to participate in my friend Carmi’s weekly photo-meme Thematic Photographic this week, because the current prompt is “perspective,” and that’s way too artsy for someone who only paints with words.
Or so I thought.
But then, I realized that perspective doesn’t have to be literal, visual perspective, it can be conceptual as well.
In [...]

Thematic Photographic: Lines

Posted by MissMeliss on Aug 11, 2009 in Animals, Dogs, Maximus the Monster Pup, thematic photographic

Carmi changes the theme for each week’s Thematic Photographic on Wednesdays, and I’m just getting this in under the wire, as it’s a bit after eleven at night in my time zone.
This is Max, sleeping in his crate, right next to my side of the bed. When we got him, he was in a [...]

Thematic Photographic: Laundry

Posted by MissMeliss on Aug 1, 2009 in Dogs, Miss Cleo, Pericles the Flirt, thematic photographic

My good blog-buddy Carmi, runs a photo meme called Thematic Photographic. I haven’t participated in forever, but tonight Miss Cleo and Sir Pericles provided the perfect photo opp that was also on-theme. They’ve also helped prove that even in the dead of summer, no dog can resist the lure of towels fresh from the dryer.

Carmi says that the theme for this week’s Thematic Photographic is “Night,” so I’m offering this picture of the moon taken from my back yard near Dallas just as Hurricane Ike was ripping Galveston apart, and just before I fished the frog out of the pool.
Fuzzy had the good camera in Hong Kong, [...]

MissCleo, sitting in the dining room window, wanting nothing more than to go outside. Sadly, it was cold and wet that day.

Carmi’s Thematic Photographic theme from this week is “angles,” and the image that sprang to my mind was this one, of a quilt my Bubbie sewed from hand.
It began as one of those kits to make a single square, and she ended up having my mother buy several more.
The quilt [...]

Thematic Photographic: Nature

Posted by MissMeliss on Sep 18, 2008 in Animals, thematic photographic

A subject like “nature” is open to such wide interpretation that I’m really looking forward to seeing what the rest of Carmi’s net buddies come up with.
As for me, I snapped this picture of a bird resting in the bird feeder, just before Carmi announced this week’s theme.

Thematic Photographic: Close-Up

Posted by MissMeliss on Sep 13, 2008 in Animals, thematic photographic

Carmi meant for this week’s theme to be macro photography, I’m certain, but I think he’ll cut me a little slack for the picture I’m submitting. You see, it was 3:30 in the morning, and I’d finally found batteries for the camera, and had gone outside to shoot the red ring encircling the moon, when [...]

Thematic Photographic: Faded

Posted by MissMeliss on Sep 3, 2008 in Nostalgia, thematic photographic

Every Wednesday, my friend Carmi invites us to participate in his photo meme, Thematic Photographic. Here’s my interpretation of this week’s theme.

I snapped this picture a couple of years ago, on a chilly October day in South Dakota. It was my husband’s last visit to the farm house where he’d grown up, and while “dirty” [...]
