5 Good Minutes

O and I came across this yesterday while searching for bagpipe and organ videos on YouTube.

I don't remember this from the Reagan funeral, which must mean I never saw it because there is no way you'd forget it.

Is Rabies Covered In The New Health Care Bill

It's been a while since posting because I've been waiting for just the perfect thing.

Here it is!

A Little Help

A couple weeks back, the families at Mr. O's daycare, EC3, had an opportunity to do a small part to help orphaned children in Haiti.

Families spent a week collecting basic clothes and hygiene items, and on Feb. 15, we shipped about 9 packed boxes to Miami for distribution.

All in all, the families collected:
• 241 pairs of socks
• 430 pairs of underwear
• 38 pairs of shoes and sandals
• 273 toothbrushes
• 114 tubes of toothpaste
• 142 bars of soap
• 38 bottles of hand sanitizer
• 92 bottles of shampoo
• 53 boxes of baby wipes
• 16 boxes of tissues
• 214 batteries

I made it on TV, too. But that's not the important part.

Sir Topham Hatt's Gonna Be Mad

In the life of a near-three year old, could any one event pack more trauma and heartache than a fire truck being hit by a choo-choo train?

We can only hope the answer to that is no.

Mommy's A Coal Car

It's been exactly 761 days since my last post on Life with Mr. O. In some countries, they take your cat for such an offense. I must move there.

To my three and a half faithful readers, I... am... sorry.

Please, take no offense to the fact that I have not written in a while, or think that Mr. O has left our home to join the "circus train." Just know that business is good, times are busy and O is... as ever.

In fact, it was a statement of his tonight that inspired me to write once again.

As we were wrapping up a tear-filled bath and preparing to head upstairs for bed... tears induced by the tragic fact that he was not given a chance to put the tub plug in the drain before I started the water... Mr. O said:

"Let's be a train. I be the engine. Mommy will be the [clean] coal car. And daddy, you be the caboose."

Indeed, what a metaphor for life with an almost three year old. There's little doubt, at least in his mind, that he's driving this train we call a family. Mom provides the fuel to keep us all going. And dad? Well, I hold on in the back, providing a place to have a drink or six, take a nap and play some cards.

On Sundays, by 8 p.m., that all sounds about right.

The other thing that inspired me to write once again is this.

I got my fireplace working again. "Advice" from the fireplace-fix-it-man-Daryl brothers be damned.

Works better than ever.

I'll try to write more often, but make no promises. Tomorrow starts Mr. O's birthday month, so I'm sure I'll have some material.

So long.

Who Me? Worried?

Hmmmmmmmmm.
