Ethel Turner, Mary Grant Bruce’s Billabong books and E.V. Timms’ stories about the settlement of Australia were always good reads, but I have also treasured the Halfmen of O series written by Maurice Gee, or the Deepwater series, written by Ken Catran, both New Zealand authors. Other books I adored were Rosemary Sutcliffe’s novels of Roman Britain, Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons, Watership Down, of course, Geoffrey Trease’s novels, like Crown of Violet, the Mists of Athelney or the Hills of Varna, plus Ian Serraillier’s The Silver Sword. And I also like non-fiction, especially sociology, welfare or history.

Favourite TV: Some serialised stories like The Silver Sword, the Spellbinder series, or Seven Little Australians would always be my choice, even if I had to see them again for the umpteenth time. Others I like to watch include Inspector Rex, even though it is subtitled.
