Wilson tweaks right hamstring

Mariners shortstop will be reevaluated on Saturday

03/05/10 7:00 PM EST

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Mariners shortstop Jack Wilson was suffering from right hamstring tightness Friday after the Mariners' 9-3 loss to the Padres in Cactus League action at Peoria Stadium.

Wilson first tweaked the hamstring in the top of the third inning while making a play in the field and then further aggravated it scoring from first base on Ichiro Suzuki's triple in the bottom of the third.

"We don't know how bad it is yet, but he had to come out of the game," manager Don Wakamatsu said.

Wilson was not available for comment after the game and will be re-examined on Saturday.

The nine-year veteran is a key component to the Mariners' infield defense this season. He was signed to a two-year contract during the offseason.

It was the second time in two days that the Mariners had a key player injured. Closer David Aardsma felt tightness in his right groin area in Thursday's game against the Padres on his final pitch.

But he was not seriously injured and probably will miss just one outing.
