Since 1985, we have been the industry leader in captioning and subtitling software. We develop and sell the only software solution for closed captioning for all video formats, including HD, Webcast, DVD and Blu-Ray. Requirements
• The ability to communicate your solid understanding of digital video editing systems (Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Sony Vegas, and Avid) and how our captioning software will work with these systems.
• A knowledge of video production, VTR tape formats such as HDCAM, XDCAM, DVCPRO HD, DVCAM, P2, etc.
• A command of digital video - this is very important
• Not afraid to learn and explore new software and equipment to create solutions that maximize the utility of the software.
• Advanced experience with NLE systems, especially Final Cut Pro, Avid and Adobe Premiere.

Job responsibilities include
1. Provide advanced tech support to customers via phone and e-mail (40%)
• You need to know how our software works inside out, and how it interfaces to various non-linear editing systems (especially Final Cut Pro and Avid) in order to provide technical support to our users. Good verbal communication skills are needed.
• Also provide technical support to our own captioning service dept.
2. Respond to customer inquiries via the phone (35%)
You will describe how our software works to potential customers who call us, and educate them about closed captioning and how CPC software can solve their captioning needs. No cold calls, no hard selling, just educating.
3. Constant product enhancement (25%)
• Provide input to our programmers as to what new features are needed in the software.
• Make video tutorials for our clients with written instructions about troubleshooting and tips for our web forum and user manuals.
• Take the questions that you are frequently asked, and put it in written form on our forum. www.cpcweb.com/forums
• Revise our user manuals. You will write descriptions of how to use new software features; and re-organize the manuals

Offline (Post-Production) Captioner

You will do post-production (not live) closed captioning and subtitling of videos at our office in Rockville, MD.

Qualifications

Excellent proofreading skills, strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, detail oriented, self-motivated, eagerness to work closely with others as well as the ability to work with little supervision. It's a plus if you are quick to learn new software (Windows & Mac); and are familiar with digital video and video tape formats. Possibility of working from home one or two days per week.

Specific Skills Required

• Basic office applications for both Mac OS X and Windows platforms
• Technical knowledge of the fundamentals of analog/digital video
• Experience with various video technologies and formats

Ideal candidate will also possess the following skills, or display the ability to learn these skills quickly:

• Project management and coordination
• Repurposing of video formats and files
• Familiarity with the following video formats: MPEG, Quicktime, AVI, WMV, Flash, RealPlayer, DVDs, VHS, DV, miniDV, DVCAM, BetaSP, DigiBeta, etc.
• Captioning experience is a plus, but not required (CaptionMaker and MacCaption are our products)

Administrative Assistant

We are looking for someone to handle the day-to-day administrative needs of our closed captioning software and service business.  A self-starter mentality is required!

Core responsibilities include: 

  • Invoicing, shipping (light packages – we sell software).

  • Updating customer records in database (ACT).

  • Keeping detailed records of financial activities in Quickbooks.

  • Keeping up with basic paperwork and filing.

Additional responsibilities include:
Answering the phone and forwarding calls to appropriate person.

Closed captioning videos when our captioning service is busy. We will teach you how to use our software to caption.

Describing how the software/service works on a basic level to potential customers over the phone. 

Requirements:
Experience using software at a level deeper than Word’s basic functions.

A desire to learn new software is essential.

Interest and experience with digital video preferred, but not required.

Excellent organizational skills and must be detail oriented.
Quickbooks experience a plus but willing to train the right individual.

Closed Captioning Coordinator

Coordinate the closed captioning of videos in our captioning service. This includes:

  • Organize the captioning work-flow, so each captioning job is completed, shipped, and billed on time; and that this is done in an efficient and effective manner.

  • Interact with customers over the phone: taking their captioning service orders, and keeping them updated as to the status of their job.

  • Interact with in-house captioning staff, and out-of-house captioners, assigning them captioning jobs to be done; and tracking their progress to ensure the jobs are completed on time.

This is a hands-on job in a small ­ medium sized captioning service.

 

When the service is not busy, you will also:

  • Answer phones and providing basic information about our captioning systems and services to potential customers who call us. No selling.

  • Prepare invoices and shipping documents

  • Coordinate office procedures

  • We would like you to learn to use our captioning software, so you can caption videos in a pinch.

  • Occasionally, you may have to type scripts from videos ­ this is where good typing skills would be helpful.

Since 1986 we have consistently produced the most technically advanced and easiest to use captioning software in the industry. For the past few years we have been expanding our captioning service to caption videotape, DVD’s and webcasts.

ABOUT YOU

  • The ideal candidate will be:

  • A self-motivated, responsible, energetic person who will pitch in and help do what it takes to get the job done.

  • Must have excellent telephone communication and customer service skills.

  • Basic knowledge of video formats, like MPEG, AVI etc. helpful, but not necessary.

  • Good typing speed a plus.

  • If you are interested in video editing it would be helpful, but it is not a requirement.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • 1-3 years experience in a similar capacity

  • College degree preferred

  • Microsoft Word. Use of other computer programs helpful, and ability to quickly learn to use other programs is very helpful

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Ability to multi-task in a time-critical environment

  • Ability to be flexible, work under pressure, resolve problems

We are seeking Realtime stenotypists and Voice-writers for broadcasts and webcasts

  • Work from home. 

  • High accuracy 

  • 2+ years realtime experience 

  • Flexible hours

You are required to have

  • Windows based steno software or Voice software

  • Two telephone lines (for broadcast captioning)

  • DSL/Cable internet connection (for webcast captioning)

  • Uninterruptible power supply to run your computer and other equipments for at least 1 and 1/2 hours if case of power failure.
