Ben Kenobi's hut
From the MoviesObi-Wan Kenobi's Tatooine home was one of the last repositories of Jedi knowledge in the Empire. It is a small spartan hut that sits atop a quiet hill beyond the Dune Sea. Though the Empire took great pains to eradicate all vestiges of the Jedi order that once protected the galaxy, they understandably missed this humble dwelling.
After rescuing him from Tusken Raiders, Obi-Wan took Luke Skywalker to his hut. There, he gave Luke the gift of Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, and started the young farmboy down the path of Jedi Knighthood.
From the Expanded UniverseUsing standardized coordinates, Obi-Wan Kenobi's hut is at southwestern edge of the Dune Sea, at Alpha-1733-Mu-9033 of Tatooine's first quadrant.
The hut consists of a single large room subdivided into living area, a raised kitchen, and bathroom. A trapdoor leads to a cellar containing water storage and power generator utilities.
After Obi-Wan's death, Luke Skywalker returned to Tatooine, making the simple hut his temporary home. There, he found the tools necessary to construct a replacement lightsaber for the one he lost at Cloud City.
Years after the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, an entrepreneur named Myhr discovered and restored Obi-Wan's home, turning it into an attraction as part of his so-called "Skywalker Tour."
Behind the ScenesThe original shooting script for A New Hope refers to Obi-Wan's home as "Ben Kenobi's Cave." Design work sketched out Obi-Wan's home as an expansive, three-story dwelling carved out of the native rock. When this couldn't be realized on the film's tight budget, Kenobi's home was reworked. The establishing shot of the hut was redone as a highly detailed miniature for the Special Edition release.
