Kicmett Scores
Twice
Diminutive Liberian international Melvin Okoro Kicmett was on the
score sheet for his Malian side Cercle olympique de Bamako in the
second leg first round tie of the Confederation of African Football
(CAF) Confederation Cup as they trashed visiting Sierra Leonean outfit
Central Parade 4-0.
The 21 year old left footed striker cum winger scored before and after
the interval to send his side to the second round of the second tier
African blue ribbon competition. After a goalless first leg in
Freetown, the ex- Monrovia Black Star, LPRC Oilers, Tonerre and Union
Douala hit-man with fellow countryman, towering defender Omega Roberts
Alamadine who had a stint with Gedi&Sons, Sewe Sports, Tiko United and
Degroile rallied the MAlian side to do the damage to Central Parade in
what reports say was exciting.
With player Kicmett experiencing a slight injury on the toe in the
first leg coupled with his side playing a defensive minded 4-5-1
formation, the player widely known as "Liberian Messi" in the
Cameroonian and Malian press along with the rest of the team looked
happy for the score line and promised to cruise to the next round of
the competition by beating their opponents.
True to their prediction, the heavy 4-0 shoreline was a good one as
they attacked on all cylinders to get the better of their opponents in
the West African derby. After the match, club president Moussa Konate
hailed the squad and particularly heaped praises on his Liberian
import of Kicmett and Alamadine describing them as "Great
Footballers". According to information from the Malian press, the
president of the club noted that the two players are an embodiment of
the club and are greatly feared and respected by opposing clubs.
