Welcome to the Department of Family Medicine. Please take a few moments to learn about our work and how we contribute to the goals of the Georgetown University Medical Center.

MEDICAL EDUCATION
Medical StudentsThe Department offers predoctoral education courses in community, preventive and evidence based medicine and family practice; a three-year family medicine residency training program; and one-year family medicine fellowships in community health center director development, medical editing, primary care health policy, and primary care informatics.

RESEARCH
The Department conducts research on issues related to underserved care, health care disparities, community-oriented primary care, primary care health policy, medical informatics, medical humanities, and physician well-being. Faculty and staff run and participate in the Capital Area Primary Care Research Network (CAPRICORN), and many conduct research on their own in areas such as patient education, disease prevention, and chronic disease care. The residency program participates in clinical research protocols utilizing the Fort Lincoln Family Medicine Center patient population, and its predoctoral division conducts research on medical education issues.

PATIENT CARE
Department faculty care for patients at various locations, including private offices and community and student health centers. The majority of these clinical activities occur at four main sites: Fort Lincoln Family Medicine Center (the Department's residency site), Unity Health Care, Inc., Georgetown University Student Health Center, and Georgetown University Hospital. It is by working with these sites that the Department provides family-centered health care to individuals and their families, while simultaneously teaching primary care, family medicine, and community health to medical students, residents, and other health professionals.
