There will always be a poem
I will climb on top of it and come
In and out of time,
Cocking my head to the side slightly,
As I finish shaking, melting then
Into its body, its soft skin
is not a lie
--Jim Carroll, "Poem"
from Void of Course (1998)

Rest in Peace, Jim

I am very sad to let you know that Jim Carroll died on September 11, 2009.

He was at his desk working when he passed away.

Jim's wake was held on Tuesday 9/15 at Greenwich Village Funeral Home , NYC, and his funeral mass was held (in high Catholic style) on Wednesday 9/16 at Our Lady of Pompeii, NYC. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery in Haverstraw, NY, where his parents are interred. The location will be released after a headstone is installed.

I'd appreciate it if folks would notify me of memorials/tributes so I can let fans know.

Please join the Jim Carroll Discussion List to share your experiences with others who loved Jim.

I have added some new pages to the site that have helped me "process" Jim's death. I hope they'll help you:

I've also added a Twitter feed that is surprisingly sweet in its tiny tributes.

Recently, I went with people close to Jim and packed up Jim's books and papers and put them into safe storage. It was a somber duty but . . . at the same time, it made me secretly happy to be securing these things for posterity. Jim's books and papers are a treasure for future scholars. Fans can be assured they will soon find a home in a library.

Meanwhile, it's not getting any easier. I'm not up to writing my own tribute yet. For now, I'll just say . . . I miss Jim terribly.

Sincerely,

Cassie Carter

P.S.

Fortunately I have spent much of the summer rebuilding CatholicBoy.com, so you should now be able to access most of the content. Some of the articles (especially the performance reviews) are still not back up, but please know they will be available eventually.

Since I am still redoing the site, you're still going to run into a "404 PAGE NOT FOUND" errors. I apologize for that. Please be assured the pages will return. If you're looking for something specific that's not up yet, please contact me.

Please note, also, that . . . obviously I'm going to need to change a lot of things on this site to reflect the new reality. Please bear with me. This is not easy.
