Maryland Minute 4.13.10 - Duke Arrogance at All-Time High
One more reason to hate Duke, Nike
Would any other school in the country do this?
Terps working to rebound in 2010 - ESPN ACC Blog
Pretty encouraging article on the state of MD football. I'm predicting between 4-6 wins this season.
Recruiting Report: Fla. DB Allen Ramsey talks UM pledge
This guy is saying all the right things.
"[Maryland defensive coordinator Don] Brown told me I was a diamond in the rough," Ramsey said. "Nobody really knows about me or anything like that. They want to keep it that way. But I committed to Maryland. [Even if] everyone comes after me, I'm not going to go back on my word. Me and Coach [Ralph] Friedgen made an agreement. I don't plan to go to any school other than Maryland for my four years of college ball."
A high major athlete with some integrity? It's refreshing to say the least.

So, The Riot News Returneth
Welcome to the party, fellas. Sorry if there's no food or alcohol left. It's been awhile.
Yes, the major news media outlets finally got a hold of video documenting the simultaneously awesome and awful post-Duke victory riots. Of course, they apparently just recently discovered just released footage of the riot, which included an image of a random passerby getting beaten badly by a few police officers for no reason.
Unsurprisingly, the same scene was on YouTube (and here) - albeit not in its entirety - shortly after the riots subsided. That leads to some questions about why there was that month and half long wait, but let's just let the MSM be for awhile.
Regardless, it's good to finally get some closure about what happened to the officers in question: they were suspended. The riot was a questionable decision by the students, but the PG County Police reaction was far worse than questionable: it was downright dumb.
Move along, folks, nothing much to see here.

Random Open Thread: Make Maryland-Themed Google Search Stories
Google just unveiled a cool little tool that allows you to make your own Search Stories - you know, those cutesy little series of searches that, when weaved together, create a story. You've probably seen one - one of them was in the Super Bowl.
With news the way it is and the blogging crew around these parts busy for the coming day(s), why not take advantage of it and create some Terp-inspired Search Stories? Maybe if we get enough, we can declare a winner. That person will receive bragging rights and...well, probably nothing else. I don't know, maybe a t-shirt if we ever get around to making a design. Or my old Nik Caner-Medley jersey!
Moving on, the initial offering, which chronicles Gary Williams' interactions with the one, the only, the infamous Terrence Ross:
Post yours in the comments.

Clemson Hires Brad Brownell, Previously Best Known For Getting Daggered by Drew Nicholas
Three new faces will be patrolling the sidelines throughout ACC country next year: Steve Donohue at Boston College, Jeff Bzdelik at Wake Forest, and now Brad Brownell at Clemson.
Brownell was most recently the head coach of Wright State, but his first gig was at UNC-Wilmington. You may remember him as this guy:
That's him right after Drew Nicholas does this. Hopefully this trend of Maryland giving Brownell the dagger can continue well into his ACC coaching career.
Now, to the analysis side of it: Wright State is in Dayton, Ohio, so his displacement to South Carolina is slightly puzzling. As a member of the Horizon League, he has consistently finished behind Butler (no shame there), but without any major domination at the mid-major level, his hire doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. At first, I was skeptical of Donohue at Boston College, but after seeing the recent hires around the ACC, he should be plenty fine.
I don't know nearly enough about Brownell to pass judgment on him entirely - quite literally the first time I'd heard of him was about two or three days ago - but I will say he's not the possible ringer that Rick Stansbury was. He would've had me afraid; Brownell has me vigilant, but not shaking in my boots.
With his hire, the ACC coaching carousel has finally slowed. The three new faces on the sideline combined with no more Ed Davis and hopefully no more Kyle Singler means the conference may have a very different look next season.

Maryland Minute 4.12.10 - Men's Lax Moves up to #4, Prepares for JHU
Today's MM is lax heavy as Cottle and Co. gear up for their rivalry match against Hopkins this Saturday.
Terps up to #4 in New Lax Poll
No surprise there.
Quint Kessenich's NCAA Lacrosse Power Rankings
QK has the Terps at #4, as well, but he's worried about their "inconsistent" defense.
Faceoff: Postscript from Navy at Maryland
The Terps are 6-0 this season when Grant Catalino notches three or more points. They're 1-2 when he has less than three. Think of Catalino as the Greivis of the Lacrosse team. Minus the weird facial hair and the shimmying, of course.

Good News: Ed Davis Leaping to the NBA
This all but ensures that North Carolina won't dominate from the outset next season. They'll be a lot better, but they'd be a real contender with Davis and their freshmen. Without him, their standing is still up in the air.

Boo Williams Review: Jabari Brown Explodes, Scottie Wilbekin Arrives
The first leg of the Nike Elite Boys Youth League - also known as the Boo Williams Invitational - is behind us. If you didn't tune in during the weekend, here's the final wrap-up.
- One target had an official blow-up. In Rivals' final write-up for the event, they highlighted Jabari Brown's performance. Brown, already plenty popular around these parts, probably did nothing to hurt himself by shooting 9-10 in the first half. Combine that with his "nuclear" performance the previous day, and it's safe to say that Brown's stock has raised plenty. Sadly, his school list wasn't kind:
Jabari Brown indicated that Washington, California, and Arizona State lead for him right now with Arizona, UNLV, Texas A&M, Maryland, and Stanford all in the chase.
Well, crud. Hopefully the Terps can make up some ground.
- Another fringe target became legitimate. Scottie Wilbekin's name had been floating around for some time, but always as a fringe player. His performance at Boo, however, probably solidified him as a possible point guard candidate behind Quinn Cook and on par with Sterling Gibbs: Dave Telep said he improved greatly and "plays the right way."
- A new target may have emerged. That would be Dorian Finney-Smith, who now lists Maryland as a suitor. That's new for DFS, who previously didn't have the Terps on his list. His performance at Boodid nothing to discourage any coaching staffs, so maybe we'll hear the name again.
- 2012 is where it's at. While the focus will be on the 2011 recruiting class for basically the next full year, 2012 might be the more crucial one. Justin Anderson, Jerami Grant, and Tyler Harris all had notable weekends, and that's not even mentioning other local studs like Isaiah Miles and Daquan Cook. It appears as though plenty of talent will be available that year; getting a decent amount of it will be important.
- Other, lesser notes: Devin Langford is legit. Aaron Brown isn't happening. Desmond Hubert is a defensive force to be reckoned with.

Maryland Minute 4.11.10 - Larry Drew Gives the Rest of the ACC a Nice Surprise
Larry Drew Staying at UNC
The rest of the ACC thanks you, LDII.
Former Target Marcus Thornton Asks Out of LOI
Will Maryland pursue? I don't know, but I'd rather have Biruta, to be honest. Thornton's a much bigger tweener than Gil.
Eric Bossi: Final Notes From Boo Williams
One of the top performers? Jabari Brown.
At 6-foot-3, Brown is a strong and compact wing scorer who just goes out there and gets buckets. He's going to score a lot of points in the Pac-10 (where he lands I don't know, but I bet it will be in the Pac-10) when he gets to school and his strength and ability to catch and shoot should help him make the transition.
Boooooo Pac-10. Also, Mikael Hopkins is one to "Keep an Eye on":
He's still lacking a bit for strength, but the 2011 big man is progressing quite nicely. He scores around the rim and is a high level rebounder both in and out of his area. Overall his fundamentals are solid (not surprising given he plays for a great coach at DeMatha in Mike Jones) and he plays with purpose.
