Special buses to clear Pongal rush

Staff Reporter

They will be operated from January 11 to 21

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has proposed to operate special buses to various destinations for clearing the Pongal rush from here.

A release from K. Jagannathan, Managing Director of TNSTC, said that the special buses would be operated from January 11 to 21.

From Singanallur bus stand, 60 buses would be operated to Madurai and 65 to Tiruchirapalli. Similarly, from Gandhipuram bus stand 30 buses would be operated to Udhagamandalam and 10 to Salem.

From Tirupur bus stand, 50 buses would be operated to Madurai, 30 buses to Tiruchirapalli and 30 buses to Theni. These special buses would be in addition to the buses already in operation.

To ease congestion during the festival season, buses bound for Madurai and Tiruchirapalli would be operated from Singanallur bus stand both during the day and night.

At present, buses to Madurai and Tiruchirapalli were operated from Gandhipuram at night. But, the services would be operated from Singanallur since there would be heavy rush that could not be accommodated at Gandhipuram, the release said.

Additional town buses would be operated to Singanallur bus stand from Gandhipuram and Ukkadam bus stands.
