Thank you for visiting the Labour Party’s Faith Groups webpage. There is an old saying that the British Labour Party owes more to “Methodism than Marx”.
Indeed, I first got involved in politics because of my own Christian faith, and I know colleagues who would say the same. As a Party, we remain committed to listening to and learning from those who make up our faith communities.
I am very pleased that, over the past few years, we’ve seen a growing wave of progressive political action that has had significant roots in our faith communities.
We’ve seen initiatives like Jubilee 2000 which successfully urged the Government to cancel the debt of some of the world’s poorest countries, Make Poverty History, the Stop the Traffik campaign against modern-day slavery, and the “Muslim Live 8” concert which highlighted the crisis in Darfur.
As the Party’s first ever Vice Chair for Faith Groups, I want to see this sort of progressive action continue. And I believe that we, as a Party, can partner with faith groups to help them continue their fantastic work. I want us to build a dialogue with faith groups which will enable us to listen to and learn from each other.
One way of achieving this is through our Faith email lists. I would be delighted if you would sign up below to receive regular updates about what we’re doing on your behalf. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions after reading this, I would be delighted to hear from you.
