ATHLETICS - MY WAY by Jim Bradley

Foreword:

This is an inspiring read. Not surprising really, as Jim Bradley is an inspiring character, full of enthusiasm and vim. A book about a truly great sprint coach. The proof is in the pudding. He turned a mediocre club runner who had been involved in the sport for years, Ricky Dunbar, into a world champion.

He went on to prove this no flash-in–the-pan by developing a series of world class performers over the last thirty years.

His methods were innovative for his time, although pretty well universally accepted by now. The speedball, his invention as to its use in athletics and football, has now established itself as a compulsory item of equipment for anyone with pretensions to greatness in his/her spor.

This was how I first met Jim, at the Essendon Football Club, when he was showing the players how to best use their recently installed speedballs. It was a revelation to me and made so much sense. Of course I already knew of the man by reputation through his ability to produce a stream of top sprinters from such an unlikely source as Scotland.

I have to say that meeting him in the flesh was not the disappointment that sometimes occurs when you first are introduced to a person whose reputation has preceded them. On the contrary, Jim Bradley is a bigger than life type personality who radiates confidence and efficiency.

If you want to run faster, quicker, read on.
